Since there is no shock specific board here I guess this is the best place for this.
I have a Nicolai helius FR frame.. love it. However I am having a little trouble with choosing the right shock for the type of riding that I do.
Mostly climbing forever followed by dh runs with all kiinds of rough ****e, rocks roots and drops. Occansionally will hit a DH run or 3 :)

Some of you on here may be suprised to hear that I am going to change the shock and not just get rid of the frame:rolleyes:
Right now I have a dhx air. It is set up with no propedal, 265lbs in the main chamber and 135-138 in the boost. This set up works really well for most of the riding I do. However when it gets really rough or I am really pushing the bike into hard rough corners the rear end starts to skidder around. This makes me think I should set the shock a little more plush. I tried this by lowering the main chamber a little to 250lbs. This feels pretty good in in the same rough corners!
Good right? Well...
Except when I come down off a bigger hit than normal. The shock tends to hit bottom out with the lower sag settings?

So my question is, do I have this shock set up wrong or am I asking too much from this shock? I know there is some interaction between the propedal and the boost to control bottom out but, I don't think I quite get how that part works. Maybe this is where I am going wrong and not using propedal enough?

Anyway, would I be better suited in using the money to get a cancreek double barrel and solve all the problems (or possibly open a new can of expensive worms if you think I have not tuned my dhx air properly :) In that case you can tell me to save my money and get a clue or better shock tuning skills ).

Lemme know your thoughts

Run the shock softer for traction, and if your going to do a big hit, just stop and dial in a couple clicks of compression damping, or in your case, crank the propedal.
