Got a few quuick newbie BB questions. What is the normal length spindle for a DH bike, and is there a certain length need for each individual DH's bike BB shell? My real question is, can i use a slightly longer spindle on my bike (148mm) than is normally there (128mm)as long as the shell size is the same? (73mm) If i do, what will be affected? Thanks guys

you can put a bb in with a longer axle length than what you have already as long as the shell size is the same. Although i think you will find it very hard to get a 148mm bb as the biggest that most companies that i know of would be a 128. If you do manage to put a 148mm bb in your chainline will be very off.

The correct way to determine the right spindle length to find the right chainline. Assuming you are running a 1x9 setup, the chainring should in line with the 5th cog.

With the variations with rear hub widths, chainguides, and bb's, this is the only correct way to calculate the right spindle length.

At a computer...duh
A 73mm shell with a 135mm rear end and a 113mm spindle worked just fine on the one I installed yesterday for a single ring setup with an E13 chainguide. I'm not entirely sure of the chainline dimension, but I want to say it was a 50mm.
