thanks for the thread j.r.
i'm on the fence on what fork to get.
a w/c or fox.
that photo helped me decide what side of the fence to launch off of.
so this one photo has changed your mind?
have you been to a mtn recently. here on the east coast seems like 70% of the riders at a race are running boxxer Teams or WC.
besides, i love my 06 WC

i was gonna get a BCW, but then i heard some rumors. i'm holding out for the 888 air.
rumors. the worst ones i always hear come from people that don't actually ride DH..

lighter = you had better be smoother

i cant believe ppl think that.

remember its ligher because its got an air spring, inside the stanchion, the structure is exactly the same.

if anything, i would be interested in seeing if the stanchion diameter to bushing overlap on the newer 8" boxxers doesnt have at least part of the blame in making this break possible.

anyhow, i think its a damn funny picture, newsworthy too, because i had never seen that happen on a right side up fork, but cmon, its extreme use and stuff like that happens all the time at that level of racing.

Boxxer Air is a first year production fork. In the bike industry, that roughly translates into "Wait for the public to guinea pig it and then go for the second generation to come out". Not dissing Rock Shox, it just seems to be a good unwritten rule for 1st year production parts across the board...except maybe handlebars?

definatly a serious slap landing.

but ive seen a tripple 8 break at the same place, as well as right below the arch on both sides.

actually the only reason i'm pondering a new fork is to start gathering up components for when i eventually build a new bike.

im currently running an 02 boxxer. and have been pounding the living daylights out of it on every ride for over four years.
i'm also a front wheel lander, so it takes even more abuse.
i replaced the stock dampner with a boxxcart cartridge, and it feels just as good as any other fork i've felt. even a 40.

and yeah, i've been to a mt. recently.
it's called windrock. and it's my backyard.
you should come check it out.

Its just one of the things that happens,Im pretty sure that would have happened with 888s,Travis or fox.
Also on the track he done it one wasnt really that surprising.
In the sport we are in things like this happen and when you buy lightweight race parts they wont last forever.
You just have to get on with it and buy another set or new lowers:rofl:
