I know this is more geared for the BMX-DJ forum but I thought I'd have better luck on a local thread. For people that don't know, Granite Park is a Sac skate park in the middle of construction. I've been hearing mixed reports of bikes being allowed upon the park's opening. Of course I've heard different from skaters so I was curious is anyone knows more of an offical statement from the city's side? As far as the park goes, this thing is massive and damn sexy.

Yea, it looks killer. The beautiful thing is that it's right behind the building I work at. So if it's allowable on whatever level I'll be hitting that place every morning. I'll post some pics from the angle I seen it at which shows the street portion.

Didn't that one cat mention it having lights 24/7? It's going to be ridden, no doubt. If Folsom can be ridden, then Granite will be. It's just a matter of waiting until the hype dies down a bit.

Or being a ninja.

It's pretty big, that's just the bowl section. There's a pretty big street section to the right that either got cut off or wasn't poured when the pic was taken.

OK I need to get in on this one since i am a Born Skater and have known about this park for about 3 years i would say you will be able to ride it.. I know some of the people that were responsible for the parks existance and this park is going to be a public park so you can ride bikes BUTTTTT dont thik you will get very far. I recomend not getting in any skaters way.

I was pro for two years and i still skate and when i go to a skate park to skate the last thing i want is a DJ in my face. And hell I love to ride my DJ.

I have been on both sides of each sport and i will tell you that Skaters are ruthless they will not hesitate to roll up on bikers to get out of the park. The skaters will always out number the bikes.

Cant wait for the park so i can Skate it. Sorry DHers and DJers i love to ride my bike as much as the next guy but face it Skating is so much harder. I love telling people that.. its ture.

I shouldn't even start, but if you think riding a skinny of any length is more difficult, or scary for that matter, than skating those bowls then you obviously have never ridden vert. I've been skating for 30 years and riding MTB for 20 and I am much less scared of dropping a 12 footer on my bike than doing a FS grind on a 12ft bowl.:oink:

Oh you guys, this isn't a skate/bike debate. You guys take pride in what you do that's cool shiet, but throwing it in people's faces is dumb. I did both so what, skated all my childhood and now I get off on riding my bikes.

I couldn't imagine waiting 3 yrs for this park, I'd be pulling my hair out. Having to wait from now to when it opens will be a pain.

servem I am just speaking out about a sport that i did for a long time and that i love. I am not trying to debate it. to whom ever it was who asked if i could ride a skinny... for example i rode my DH bike for one year and by the end of that year i got in the top ten at North* and was doing 15ft drops... it took me 4 years to grind a 7stair hand rail.. now to state another fact I LOVE to ride my bike sooooo much it gives me something that skating could not.

dang everyone is so defensive ha ha ha. Hell i no how hard the pro DHers and Freeriders ride and the stuff they do is sooo hard and takes tons of balls and dedication.

CANT WE ALL JUST GET ALONG

Hey servem Me and my friends from SpinCity are going to be riding Auburn on Sunday july2 about 5:30 pm you should come up.
Hey did you end up getting a dh rig?

MUCH LOVE

i skate and bike

i think that park will allow bikes, call the number they give you..

there are differences in many
skating
harder for speed landings and ridable places
easy to bail
lot of cordination

biking
bigger stuff(usually)
harder to bail
faster pace(usually)
strength and consistency, then again so does skateboarding..

Marc, I'm not defensive, just looked like this thread was heading in the wrong direction.

I'd love to go this Sunday but the wife and kids are coming back from an AZ trip late Sat or early Sun. They been gone for over two weeks so need some fam time. I'm going up to Auburn Sat afternoon if you wanna ride, might end the day at the jumps again.

I got me a DH rig, just trying to rebuild it. Rear shock is blown, hopefully will be getting another soon. That and I need a new wheelset which should be getting in the next week.

The city is currently pretty strongly against allowing bikes. They're still working out the operational details, but I doubt bikes will be part of it.
And if the park ends up being fully supervised, then it will be enforced pretty strictly.

I personally am totally in support of allowing bikes during certain hours, especially if the park is supervised and access can be controlled.

By the way, the city's attitude on this has been partly based on the fact that the skater community has been vocal, organized and active in getting the city to build skate parks. Whereas, there apparently have been no organized efforts by the BMXrs to address their needs—no one goes to city council or the parks department to demand BMX facilities, they just wait around for skate parks to get built and then barge in. Even though I don't mind sharing with BMXrs (as long as their respectful of skaters) there is some truth to the fact that they haven't done anything to get what they want the way the skaters have.

If you want to address theses issues, you should contact Janet Baker at Sacramento Parks & Recreation: jbaker@cityofsacramento.org

That was in response to asking whether or not the park would be open to bikes. He seemed like a pretty cool guy, but the outlook is a little grim.

I've only "connected" with any sort of riding scene for maybe, ohh a month or two now. It's strange, but the more that I ride my bmx, the more that I realize that there isn't really some sort of organized voice for the local riders. Had there been, then riding in some of these parks would have definetly been possible. Am I missing something? Is there a group for this stuff?
