I have a 2005 demo 8 pro that i just built up. I'm about 140pds, and the frame is a medium so it comes with a 450pd spring. It feels kind of stiff but not that bad at all. The shock also has the minimum amount of air in it so i cant make it any softer. Should i just get a 400pd spring? Thanks

i weigh 130lbs and run the 450pd spring and im about to order a ti spring and im going to get the 450. my friend that weighs 140 also, bought an 05 and sent in for his free ti spring and they sent him back a 450, so it is the right spring for you. if you go into your lbs and ask them to set it up for your weight they most likey would

I weigh 158lbs and I am in love with my 550lb spring. I hate those silly short chainstays though. With the 450lb spring I bottomed out non-stop. With the heavier spring, I run less progressivity on the shock, and 49psi in the cv/t chamber. Works great! (Swinger 4way shock, out of control pilot)

holy crap! you're running a 550 and you only weigh 158!!? that's like 100#'s over recommended for your weight. i'm 225 and running a 500 but i'm on that borderline between needing a 500/550. man, your demo must pedal like mad.

Speaking from experience with my Demo 8, for your weight I would definitely run the 400 lbs. spring.

Do you have a Swinger 4-way or a DHX? This also effects things. I've found that the compression on the Swinger is more firm than on the DHX.

I'm with Manimal. I weigh 240, and am running 550ti with 85lb in the boost on my Swinger. It holds my fat ass up just right. Not sure how you got 550 if you only push the scale to 158.

Remember, its a DH bike.

2005 bikes came with a coupon for a ti spring. They were supposed to ship with the bikes and weren't available at the time.

This may be a hint as to why you don't like the way the rear suspension tracks...

Just built up an 06 small D8 with a DHX 5 w/400 spring. I weigh 150 with gear. Running about 40% sag, 3/4 boost in, no propedal, with 110 psi in the shock. Pretty much perfect. Open slope, drops etc. was amazing. Very impressed with the bike.
