Yellow Jacket Removal:

BurlyShirley said:
hahaha,

Our cat got stung the hell out of yesterday and had to go to the vet for a steroid shot and an allergy shot. There is an underground yellowjacket nest just at the base of the steps of our back door that we did not notice until yesterday when the cat got it good.

So this morning, I decided to take care of the problem. I know gas or diesel is the best, but I had none around, so I got a water bottle and filled it full of bleach and shot that down the hole.

This did nothing but piss the bees off, and they were after me.

After it settled down a bit, hahah, I just used DRANO  Those little bastards are tough.

I guess Im just going to keep trying different kitchen cleaning agents until the die.
Strangely enough, window cleaner seems to work very well. I suppose straight ammonia would be as effective.

I got nailed by one of those bstrds a few weeks ago.

I still have a mark.
We were talking about stinging insects. :D

I used to keep bees, so I have gotten rather blase about stings. I don't in general pester stinging critters and they don't pester me.

However - late in the summer, when the yellowjacket nests get strong, sometimes I have to get rid of them so as to be able to work in the yard without getting stung.

Im actually very interested in keeping some bees once we buy property.
I dont like to kill for the skae of killing, but hte $100 vet bill isnt going to be something I can regularly deal with.

Fantastic spray has ammonia in it, so I figured I'd try it on some ants (we have been infested lately)... Bang! Amazing, I tell ya! Instant death... I highly recommend. :thumb:

Go buy a cheap $5 bottle of vodka (the kind in a plastic bottle) and get a brick... Stand over the hole... hit the bottle like a man... dump the rest down the hole... cover hole with brick... run like a scared little girl.

A few may escape to chase you but by the time the rest start to dig out they will all die from the fumes.

I was watching "Mythbusters" and they tried vodka. Didn't work for them.

I just had a professional remove a european hornet nest out of the wall in my house. When I mentioned my cure for yellowjackets he informed me that it is a $500.00 fine from the EPA to use gasoline.

I don't know yet. I'll get an invoice on friday. After watching him do battle with them and not get stung it'll be worth ever penny.

I just went head to head with 2 yellow jackets out at the shed getting some lights out. I killed 1 with a cedar board about 2 feet long. The other escaped. The nest had 2 little combs thus far and it fell between the boards on the porch on the shed. I'll bet this isn't over. I'll also bet I have some bee spray when I get home Sunday.

If you guys live in an apartment that has some kind of bug service, give them a call. We had ants so bad and I tried everything to get rid of them but it wasn't until we had some exterminators comes out and get the whole house really good that they finally disappeared. I hate fricking ants.
