Foam for Foam pit?

Ours has matresses and carpet foam on the bottom layers, and then foam they got from a local skatepark on the top.
My experience suggests that lots and lots of smaller blocks works best, the bigger ones tend to provide harsh landings, and the smaller ones provide more "suspension" and more forgiving, like falling into fluffy water. Be careful to get foam that has enough dampening that you're not gonna go too far too fast.

go to colleges/gymnastics places and see if they are buying new foam, and you can take theirs...
go around south roanke on trash day and collect all the old stanky matresses that people are throwing out.

warehouses use foam and have to change it out periodically, we got ours from a Harris Teeter warehouse who was changing theres out.
