what do you want to learn?

I don't know of any foam pits but the only thing they are really helpfull for are things like flips, double flips and the like. I've know/heard of more people getting hurt in those things then not.

I think there is a park opening up in the tacoma area that will have a foam pit. not sure of the opening date though.

yea im pretty sure i could pull a backflip into a foam pit. Ive tried once on a bmx bike and landed on my head, but i didnt commit to it because I was freaking myself out because of the landing.

yeah, I've heard of quite a few people who've been hurt in foam pits also.

[not stoked that they included a foam pit in that joint, but at least there's a couple of hips]

i bet they didnt hurt as bad as if they were on dirt
broken ankles, shoulders, wrists, elbows, etc. when I talk about people getting hurt in foam I mean the kind of hurt that keeps you off your bike, unable to ride.

I'm just sayin, they are more dangerous then people think.

I'd rather do a face plant into foam than dirt any day!! I smoke crack

try stuff into snow... thats how i learned flips. just pile tons of snow onto the lander of a dirt jump, clear the runup and have at it. its not the safest, but softer than dirt. then to land, i tried using carpet over the snow, but couldn't pull it-kept sliding on the carpet. by then though i had the rotations down and tried it last summer on jeff lenosky's wood chip jump and landed my third try.

I'm not really surprised. That thing seems like it's not deep enough nor long enough. Travis from U.P. was trying 360 whips into it the other day and I thought for sure he was going to hit the back wall a few times.

Another fun thing to do is fall (because you can) and then let your mode of transport hit you once you are in the pit.

It sucks climing out anyway.

yeah I saw this kid trying back flips and he decided to bail out half way thorugh and his bike landed right on him. He had a big gouge in his shin from a peg.

ahaha...speaking of travis, he almost whipped right into a kid who couldn't get out of the pit soon enough...oh, man the look on the kids face was priceless. I forsee many more injuries due to the foam pit in the coming months

yes. foam pits are bad news. people think they are all nice and soft, how could you possible get hurt?
asides from the bike landing on you, you can actually break things, such as ankles.

how much does it suck to tell people, "yea, i broke my ankle in a soft foam pit.."

if it wasn't mentioned, he actually went through the foam and hit the bottom.

the only good thing I see about the pit being there is, it keeps about 8 or 9 kids out of the way of the rest of the park. :D

last night I saw travis jump from the long quarter, over the railing and into the spine. super duper cool.

That's gnarly as hell. I saw him do it the other way (from spine over the rail) when we had a preveiw session in the place before it opened. Going into the spine is basically the same since EVERY single ramp has THE SAME damn transition but the spininess of the spine makes it that much sicker/scarier. That kid kills it. I skate at U.P. with that crew quite a bit.

that would probably be my only complaint, is that all the trannys are the same. minus the 3 foot tall stuff.....

travis was also trying to go from the left hip (if your standing on the long quarter, looking towards the vert wall thing/turn around for the box jump/foam pit) into the vert wall thing. he didn't make it, with his bike (i think he landed in the vert wall though :D) but I'm sure he'll get it soon.

WOW. That is nutty as hell. And I thought I was cool just ollieing off the deck into the vert wall :o:

My wife watches lame TV Shows tonight so I'm going to head up for the bike session tonight to just watch for a bit.

Even the pinner mini ramp has the same dumb 8' tranny.

I do like the place though. It is making me skate stuff I don't normally skate.

I'm still planning to be there tonight.

...speaking of cool Travis lines...I saw him transfer from the box jump to the landing wedge next to the box jump (the one with the big notch taken out of it). Which is pretty far, plus it's a blind landing on a small two foot section of ramp. It was a neat line.

You know what I would really like to see added to the place is either and actual jersey barrier or a jersey barrier shaped wood device on the wedge section over by the small 3ft quarter/wedge/quarter section. That would be fun

I used to ride my bmx off a launch into a lake. Just put a child's life jacket over the handlebars and the bike just slices into the water. For flips and stuff, you just have to remember to hold onto the bike and use water deep enough. It is great for the summer time afternoons. (oh, and don't use a bike with backpedal brakes. a friend of mine went to the hospital when they engaged halfway up the ramp.)

That is cool.

I think they should put a jersey barrier with some tranny at the bottom (ala RDS) on the back wall on the platform next to the vert quarter. That is a total dead end. (at least for a skatebard).
