bump for this grassroots DH race SERIES - I'll post an update from the 1st one if anyone is interested - I'm going to race this series. Looks like Sea Otter DS course designer and all around rippin rider of lore Keith Defiebre is heavily involved w/ this series.

I am really happy that there is a race now close to home, but did the website say we need to push our bikes to the top of the course, or is there a way to shuttle it?

Mt Toro is a Regional Park that would probably present an insurmountable set of bureaucratic hurdles to jump thru for a shuttle......I guess we have to Weir Up and push....probably be nice and hot, too....hey its a series, few will probably make them all....go when you can!

Just got back from the first one. It was my first actual race, and I had a blast. Heath- my girl will be for sure riding her first race at the september one.

So, I'm curious on what this course was like? I've got my DH bike all fixed up and ready to go, but not sure I want to drive out there if it is more Super D-esque. How long were the race runs?

The fastest time was on a clapped out Nomad. A bunch of the faster times were on super sweet DH sleds. Either bike would work just fine as long as you're strong enough to pedal it. A trail bike would be more comfortable, but I think a DH bike is more fun.

The course had a couple sweet singletrack sections, some fast fire road parts, an off camber part, and a short climb a la Sea Otter. No man made jumps, unless you were gapping out of the singletrack and over a waterbar. I didn't see anyone really try that jump, but it was pretty large.

Awesome weekend, good times!

That fast time was all about the skinsuit. haha - good job Curtis. The course seemed like it would have been good even for a hard-tail - and there were some pretty fast hardtail times too. Since it's only $10 extra to add additional catagories after the first one, it got me thinking seriously about setting up a hardtail for the remainder of the series.

I saw a fair amount of people taking pictures out there - anyone have pics?

Welp, I finished editing the photos so check them out. Here's a link to my web site halfro.com. Just click on Photography Events, Mountain Biking, and Central Coast Downhill Race Series August 21st 2006.

Cheers...

The course is fun, pretty pedally though. Mixture of fast fireroad with singletrack and washy turns. The fastest bikes were trail or 4X bikes, I rode my hardtail and did pretty well. I was kinda bummed about the hike up but it's a nice, long course and decent elevation drop.
