Yup! Sq-Earl & I both have the cheap, red, flashy ones and they work great. He actually bought a 5 LED inexpensive headlamp too and it's worked well for him.

I have a niterider tail light. It is vastly superior to the clipon ones that I have. It is designed to be used with a nightrider front light, but it wouldn't be too hard to rig up a pack of 4AA(6V) to use with it.

Just pick up whatever blinky you happen to find. I bought whatever was on sale and have not had any problems. It's been through plenty of rainstorms. I also got some reflective stickers that I put on the back of my helmet and have a reflector leg band thing that I put on my left ankle.

Those cheap red flashy things last a long time and are pretty water resistant. they are like 3 bucks I think.
