i just finish my last race for this season and i realised i dont take my feet of the pedals that much anymore. in my race run i only took them off once and it wasn't even to dab. and when i take corners now i keep my feet on the pedals. even though i have 510 shoes with cully pedals, though out my run i am still adjusting my feet around so that its perfect on the pedals.
so i am thinking of getting shimanos 647 or crank bro mallets. my main worry is which pedals are easier to clip back into, and which ones girp better when not cliped in.
from what i have gathered is that the crank bros are harder to clip in and out of and since the egg beater sticks out more, it grips less when uncliped. and does it still have that problem of the left pedal being slightly harder to unclip?
as for shoes i will go for a skate style shoe, oakley wrech at the top of the list now.

DH, my personal favorites are Shimano 454s (I think that's the #). They're the old retention style ones with the plastic cage. I like the plastic cage because it just skips over rocks when you hit 'em and the old retention system is more secure than the old one, so you're not as likely to unclip accidentally. I've heard good things about both Times and CB Mallets, but I really like the adjustable tension on the Shimanos. Plus CB cleats wear out really fast from what I've heard. Just my opinion of course.

Mallets for me, never an issue, and a platform when ya need one.
Me too. I've only ever unclipped accidentally once and that was because I had just switched cleats and didnt do much of a parking lot test so I had them adjusted at a whack angle.

CB offers more durable cleats now as an option. I haven't tried 'em yet...with 4 pairs of shoes and 3 bikes, my cleats tend to last pretty long anyway.

danm, when it comes to pedals everyone has such different opinions.
well, here is my list of good and bad.
shimano,
good, they are pretty low profile. so girp on the platform should be better. adjustable tention. predictable clip in.

crank bros,
good, has float. maybe will come in handy. slightly lighter. huge platform.
bad, the egg beater sticks out quite a bit, so might get in the way causing less grip on the platform? unpredictable clip it, you dont really know where the egg beater is.
it used to have problems of the left side being slightly harder to clip out of, is that still the case?

647s, i own 4 pairs. best ever. its the the only shimano thing i run. best for adjusting tension. i run them pretty loose. but work great. highly recommend. easy to get in and out of. even in mud

he definitely isnt.. we're having a race here this weekend so the 3 of us are off to practice tomorrow. have you tried riding a sunday?? im planning to get a used one but it seems that i have to wait for someone to sell a small. if not a sunday, i might build a 222/06 boxxer team. what do you think? not so bad?

oh well, this tread is derailled enought.
yea, i rememberd they told me they were having a race the next weekend. tell them to go whoop some ass from me. do you guys stay around the same place? the 222 would be sweet if you can stand the pedal feedback. its slightly worse then the bullit. the sunday is amazing. i am still trying to convince myself that single pivots rock and i dont need a sunday.:bonk:

get time pedals and don't waste your time with all the others. for $59US, they last forever, have good float, not too heavy, and the best pedal if it gets muddy
