Seasonal beers are the beverage equivalent of seasonal lawn decorations. If I want my beer to taste like Fall I'll use it to wash down a cider donut or quench my leaf raking thirst.

after trying all of them, i gotta say that smuttynose is the winner. dogfish has that vague unsettling undertones which make me dislike their 'raison d'etre' beer...not sure what it is, but it's there. the post road is probably 2nd, then dogfish, then shipyard, and blue moon brings up the rear.

blue moon is definitely the rear of all beers, I'll give you that. What was the smuttynose like? Very fruity? I'd like to give it a shot, but probably wouldn't like it if it was too fruity and sweet.

For what it's worth, I love Magic Hat #9. Any more fruity and sweet though and I couldn't.

not nearly as fruity/sweet as #9, which i recall to be fairly cloying. that said, if you don't like nutmeg or those spices, steer clear of pretty much any of these beers.

the smuttynose is definitely worth a try. their shoals IPA is neck and neck w/ dogfish 60 min, and that's heady company.

Nice, i love pumpkin pie and I love beer. So I should be good to go then?

in other news, I can now get PBR in canada. Only they want $6.99 for 6 pack????? It is 5.21% here, not 3.1%.

i have had the blueberry beer (once); watermelon sounds a bit off for my tastes.

had some Cambridge Brewing pumpkin ale last night @ Bukowski's...damn good.

MMcG, i agree that smuttynose is consistently good product. i do like Old Thumper, which i think is made by shipyard.

Autumn is the best of the beer seasons. Better than the lighter brews offered in the Spring and Summer, and better than the heavier, spicy beers offered in the Winter and holiday seasons. I think Octoberfest should be a year round celebration. Beer is good.

I've had the blueberry and watermellon from BBW, both were good for what they were, but to light for my tastes. Give me a smoked Porter please! :)

Octoberfest beer is brewed from Late July till January anymore.
It seems like they are extending the brewing season like they extend the Christmas Holiday season every year.

So what's the problem? The more beer selection, the better.

BTW, I'm not too sure the beers are actually brewed that long, but rather stores just keep it on the shelves until it sells. I saw Spaten Oktoberfest in my local beer mart last winter that had expired. Always check the dates when buying beer that is not in season. :clue:

Did I say it was a problem?
I could careless if they served all the seasonal beers all year long!
