The Trek session frame is much better then the Kona Frame, the 06 kona frame is strange, you sit very low, i dont like the geometri on the Kona.
On the session you have a more aggresive position, this bike rule downhill singeltrack!

A minus is on the session is the fork, The Sherman fork is crap, stiff as hell, but all other components are good, very good :)
My advaice is; Get yourself a session 77 then sell the fork and buy a marzocchi 66 or Travis....

This is my bike, i have used it for a season now, it`s for sale by the way ;)

Id go for the Stinky. My buddy rides a 06 and loves it. If you get a Stinky make sure it has the upgrade rockers.

those 2 bike are on total oposite ends of the $ range, it's kinda hard to compare the 2. between a 06 stinky and a 77 yeah deffintly the 77 but it'll cost you $2k or so more. did you mean the stinky deluxe or primo?

I can't comment on the Trek because i haven't ridden them, but I have beat the snot out of several Konas and they just keep coming back for more. Konas are a very fun bike that feels like you have been riding it for years the first time you throw a leg over it. Are you looking at the Stinky, Stinky Deluxe, or Stinky Primo??

On a side note, there are lots of great bikes in that price range. If I were you I would get out and ride at least a few other brands before you choose between the two. Konas get a lot of good write ups, but I personally don't like the way they ride. Not to say they aren't good bikes, because I think they are. I just haven't liked the one's I've ridden because of the way they pedal. It's all personal taste.

I personally prefer the 4 bar suspension designs. 6 of my 7 bikes the last 6 years have been 4 bar. The one that wasn't (Foes Fly) also pedaled really well because the suspension is very progressive and super stiff.

For the price range, other good designs would be bikes from Iron Horse, Specialized and Giant.

i wish there was a smilie face with the dude shooting his own head off. 4 bar sucks.

wait. im in a freeride forum huh? ok well i kinda change my mind.

4 bars are only ok for freeride. everything else there horrible on.

why not a dirtbag? I'm surprised nobody has said it yet. Similar design, better company, cheaper than a 77. Plus you can go frame only and build to taste.

The 77 is a class "A" piece of work and all Kona's are class "B" at best there really is no comparison between them !

I completely diagree.

If Trek is A, then what is Intense, Foes, Canfield, and other higher end bikes.
