I love it, the coverage is fun to watch the racing is good from the stand point that they have lead changes.

F1 is good for a complete different reason to me, all the technology and information those guys gather and put to use and the percise skill of the drivers is nuts.

from a racing each other stand point, it's no contest to me.

i think last weekends nascar race had 60+ lead changes....that could be the season total for F1.

to stay on topic, i think it's great that RC is giving himself new challanges.

I love Moto GP. I hope our boy Nicky H. wins the over all this year. Its a close race for the title.

EC, you have a good point there!!! That is all I every here my friends talk about is how many times the lead changes.

There are only lead changes in nascar because they stop the race every ten laps, its fing pathetic. plus all the cars look and sound the same.

I use to go to Liberty elementry school with RC's wife Ursula. We actually had a little fling in 3rd grade. haha i hooked up with RC's wife haha, Ursulla if youre on ridemonkey you gotta represent Buckeye!

What I find funny about "Stock Car Racing" is that "Stock" has nothing to do with it....but it got it's name for being that way back in the day...leave it up to rednecks not to change anything....especially they're hairstyle.....:biggrin: :banana: :biggrin:

pastrana isn't in WRC. honestly I dont see him ever making WRC...but he is good for the sport in america that's for sure. mcrae was actually at a huge disadvantage. he was in a car he was not familiar with. had only sat in it the day before. he had only raced 4 rallys that year, and wasn't use to the different course note rules etc. if u noticed he just got faster as the x games rally went on and was the smoothest driver there.

as for NASCAR...maybe they will bring something new to NASCAR...like maybe RIGHT HAND TURNS! gasp! :biggrin: sorry not a fan of nascar here either...i still think the best racers in the world r in motogp.

Have you ever actually WATCHED a race? There is much more passing than in any F1 event I have ever been to or watched on TV. F1 you get passes out of pit lane, passes from wrecks and mechanicals and once and awhile if you are really, really lucky, passes from a slick move.

If you want passing, watch NASCAR or motoGP/world superbike. MotoGP has hands down, the most passing of any motorsport in existence. Sometimes 3 and 4 passes per corner, and then they switch off again next corner or second have of the chicane.

the passing in NASCAR is about as exciting as driving down the interstate. Nothing like a 4 second long swing around the outside over the span of an 1/8 of a mile to make my head hit the pillow I tell ya....

I would like to have a text message hit my phone anytime Tony Stewart hops out of his car in the "whoop some ass" stance. Other than that...boring. Give me Pro Foot ball anyday.

This thing kind of breaks my heart. I used to like Montoya. Interesting thing I found on USA today : "

Although he had offers to stay in F1, Montoya opted for NASCAR and a likely pay cut. The Chicago Tribune reported Montoya made $14 million in his final year with McLaren Mercedes. Top NASCAR drivers make about $5 million in base salary plus a percentage of winnings and merchandise sales."

Although the reality is that success in F1 depends largely by what car you are driving, and he probably wasn't having much luck getting into a good one.

Well at least I will have someone to root for if I have a gun put to my head.

As far as RC going over. That isn't too suprising. Supercross has always been a bunch of rednecks, only cool as hell.

Nascar is boring until the final 10 laps and half the time they F that up with a yellow.

I will watch for the first time in a couple years because of Montoya, RC and Vill.

F1 needs to somehow increase ease of passing.

MOTO GP AND SUPERBIKE ARE EASILY THE MOST EXCITING RACES TO WATCH.

Due yourself a favor: Get Speedchannel and watch motoGP. You will no longer care about other racing. (MotoX is a close second this year due to Bubba. But w/out RC, Bubba will win every race.)

An American is leading MotoGP. An American actually doing well in a world sport, and no one seems to care.

Motocross is my favorite sport and I don't consider nascar one
I have rooted for ricky all these years and I didn't even know him
like I thought.
That will give me all new respect for Stewart (Bubba) that is.
Damn that sounds like it could transfer to nascar pretty easily too
I hope Ricky doesn't discrace his legend that way
badmitten would be a better choice dude!

Awww come on like anyone could have done well in that car, that was one of the biggest POS to ever get on the track.

To say drivers are has beens in F1 is kinda retared, you have no idea if it's them or the car, even guys on the same team don't get the same stuff. It's all favortisim and who's sucking up the best at the moment.

An F1 race in the wet is like watching nothing else in motorsports. (The SpeedTV guys are great too...when Kubica came in for drys in China, they had some really funny commentary.) F1 had a few boring years where Schumacher just ran away with it, but the last couple years have been very good to watch.

Watching NASCAR is like watching basketball. 2 1/2 hours of meaningless crap and 5 minutes where it counts.

The nepotism in NASCAR drives me a bit crazy too, like someone stated upthread. Exhibit A: http://sports.yahoo.com/nascar/nextel/drivers/17/career

But jeez, now he'll never hear me cheering for him over those engines. It was already a challenge positioning onesself in a non-throttle zone for optimum audibility at the Outdoors. Haha.

Off topic, but does anyone know what Mike Gossellaar will be doing now? I was more stoked about RC's wins these past few years for the Goose than I was for RC.



Further OT, maybe now that Doc's left Bklyn he can go work for RC in NASCAR. LOL.

whatever the reason they have all the lead changes does not matter...the fact that they do does! so it would make more sense to have a bunch of cars strung out like it was a parade?

when i watch an F1 race the cars all sound and look the same to me.


when you go drive go karts isn't it more fun when all the cars go about the same speed?

it sucks when you get the crappy car and can't race with your friends...or if you get the fast car and have to always wait for them.

One of the reasons passing is common in motogp might be just because they have more room. Also the lack of downforce (As compared to race cars) is another key factor.

F1's reliance on aerodynamic grip is probably the main factor in there not being any passing. When you close in on the car in front, you lose some downforce and get a bit skittish. Slipstreaming is actually not as viable as most would think; considering their aerodynamic efficiency and small profile, drafting for a pass is actually pretty difficult.

Not to mention that most of the tracks they run on don't lend themselves particularly well too passing either. However, if you look at the sports car guys (closed wheel, low downforce), they can get pretty aggressive.

An alternative to MotoGP for passing oriented racing, check out karting, especially in Europe, its full contact out there! :shocked:
A lot of the F1 guys still keep ties with the karting industry since it was their training grounds since they were 5 ( or 3 if you're Fernando Alonso)

If you guys get a chance you should give it (karting) a shot, they'll out accelerate (shifter kart:0-60:low to flat 3's) and out corner (3g's) a Ferrari. However shifter karts are more of an american phenomenon. Europe is all about single gear direct drive (really teaches momentum conservation).

Wrong...I specifically compared him against his teammates to avoid the whole 'its the car, not the driver arguement'. JV was an over-paid cancer at BAR-Honda who was outpeformed by his teammate, Jenson Button, and eventually lost his seat to Takuma Sato (he's a whole other story). He then moved on to Sauber, now Sauber-BMW, where he was once again outperformed by his teammates eventually losing his seat this year to the Polish rookie sensation, Robert Kubica. F1 won't miss Jacques at all
