Does it seem that prices have fallen a lot? I have several bikes I'm trying to sell and its been a hell of a time unloading them. It seems like its a great buyers market and horrible for sellers. 
Used DH bikes seem to have gotten pricier in the past few months...
I think I paid 700$ shipped for my stock SGS Pro DH in January, so I guess I missed it.

Its about to be winter, people arent going to ride as much and parts simply arent in demand. People dont buy things they dont immediately need unless they see a crazy good deal.

Damn, snaked me on my post. Your probably right...the reason I'm selling is becuase I've changed sponsorship and I'm dumping the fleet for a new one.....I'm sure there are other people doing the same thing (and like you said, its WINTER!!)
How? Lower the price or advertise in more places. Not really a ton of options for that kind of thing. Maybe throw in a happy ending.

one thing i have noticed is that if I post anything on MTBR I get nothing bu scammers.....its a damn pay site and I never seem to get a good response, I do better here for free!
Right now is the time of year when everyone is trying to dump their stuff to buy the new crap that has been featured on Interbike. Everyone wants the latest and greatest, but the problem is that everyone wants it at the same time so you get tons of riders dumping their stuff at the same time while the public has a hey-day at buying great parts at the cheapest price on ebay. If you want to sell your stuff, ebay is the answer. Sucks but that is where people go to get what they want at a good price. Great for buyers, bad for sellers. Think about it.... how can we compete with ebay?

I always get some responses on trail-bike stuff there. Not so much DH.
Do you complain about the rain falling too? I've sold tons of stuff on Ebay, from used bikes to new parts I can't use.
Why don't we complain about Performance Bike next?
Yeah the season is tough right now. My sells usually slow down right now and when Christmas season starts they pick back up. Right now I can't get rid of a NEW bike that's $1,300 off retail....but I know when Christmas hits I'll have trouble keeping up with sells....D

Believe me, private shops that have been around for years have plenty to complaine about in regards to Performance bikes. If Performance moves into a new area they really affect the sales at other local shops because the local shops just can't compete with their prices. Performance is the Wal-Mart of bike retail! Great for the buyers but bad for the local shops.
And I have to agree with Dan the Man, about how ebay brings the price down on many items that are worth more then what they sell for. And I don't see how he was complaining.... he is just stating a fact! Ebay is the anti-christ!
What I see is that:
1. The '07 products are being released/shown and everyone wants new shiny parts.
2. Based on #1, there is a flood of items on the market.
3. People buy an item and use it for a season or two and try and sell it for what they go it for. Sorry it's used, the value is lower now(not directing that at you, just a general comment).
4. So many options out there - some people might opt for a lesser brand becasue it's new instead of a higher end item that is used for the same price.
I've always felt that people selling used bike stuff expect too much for their products. I'm sorry but in my opinion - bike stuff loses it's value faster than a car does...
And I love ads that talk in depth about how great the product is... well if it so great then why sell it?

I'm having that problem too. I have a DH fork and a set of hydraulic brakes for sale, listed on three sites. I've had a few inquiries, no dice. I sell my stuff usually because I get strapped for cash at certain times and need the money more than the parts. Doesn't mean the stuff is trashed/sucks. Just that I like to eat and keep a roof over my head.
I've had very good luck with mtbr.com actually. In fact, I've bought almost all my bikes on that site, including my old Karpiel and my current Foes Mono. Its still cheaper than eBay, which I've been having less and less luck with lately.
One thing that has been getting me is shipping. I'm getting more strict about charging people the full price rather than making a deal, simply because I've lost quite a bit of money by just throwing out a figure I thought was close enough. Yeah, my fault, but I've learned.

I'm nearly ALWAYS able to sell stuff for more money on eBay than RM. I'll typically list on RM first for cheap, if nobody bites (as seems to be the case lately), bump up the price and list on MTBr...usually it sells, if not, eBay eats it and I get even more. I tried selling a Fox fork on here awhile back for $250, no one bit, I just went straight to eBay and got $330.

Most 2006 bikes (yes, barely 1 season old) usually go for around $3K (excellent condition and top of the line parts). Older bikes, you can start to subtract from there.

How did you sell a bike in the 90's? Put a classified in Velonews or a card on the shop bulletin board.
Items which do well on ebay on the ones that people want. Put on a hot item and you will get close to retail as winning bid. Put on a less desirous part on sale, and you will get a lot less.
For example, I have a Surly 1x1, rim brake only, which I am holding onto because I won't get what I want for it. If I had a 29er single speed though, I am sure I would make a nice chunk of change.

You said Ebay is bad for sellers. I said it can be very good to sellers, depending on how popular the item is, because it creates a much larger market
I would still like to hear how Ebay hurts sellers.
