the 02 had several issues corrected in later revisions

1 the stock shock was a RS prodeluxe that normally had a lot of problems right out of the box. on a used bike this shouldnt be a problem.

2 the linkage had problems mostly stemming from hardware loosening and causing ovalization and play, normally solved with loctite and proper maintenance, check linkage for play.

3 the upper part of the shock mount tabs, on the seat tube, had a poor design that caused them to crack pretty soon. check the top part of the tabs.

It's a solid bike, but the frame had a tendency to crack at the upper shock mount. The lower pivot bolts usually work there way loose, so you have to loc-tite them...there is also a small spacer remedy that one of my teammates worked out...i'm not sure what he did, but I can get more information. The chainguide that comes with the bike absolutely blows...replace it with an e13, MRP, or Gamut asap. The chainline on the bike isn't the best, but something that certainly won't kill you. Other than that...the bike is sweet. They feel great at speed and in the rough.

edit: snipped :)

the mid-west armpit!
Birdy, if you have the chance to buy an 02 dh team.... go for it! I know you are on a budget and the frame will perform very well for you. You will not regrete your purchase!
