Yeah that course is perfect for a hardtail. The only part that would be hard on a singlespeed is the bitches, but that's a very small part of the course, the rest is a singlespeed dream come true.

The bitches may be hard on a SS but they are probably faster. First lap the past few years SS'ers were blowing by me on the bitches because they had to keep their momentum up. I'd pass them back after the bitches because I had a bigger gear.

The fastest bikes on the course are geared hardtails, at least during the day. A lot of guys bring two bikes running a hardtail during the day and a FS at night. If you look at this years top five SS racers you would conclude that SS bikes are as fast as geared. But if you look at 2005 you will see the geared bikes appear to be quite a bit faster. I think you will run about 10% slower on a SS.

Yeah a SS would definitely spin out on the flats but damn would you ever motor up the climb.

Next time I do that race I'm doing it on a SS.

A full geared FS 26er is the fastest bike on this course. Top solo man and woman both were on geared FS bikes last year. SS's are sure fun as are 29ers but can't keep up with the full on ride at OP.

I think registration maxes out at around 1500 people and they sell out each year. All I know is lining up at a start with 400 or so people has been the most intimidating thing I have ever done.
I am pretty sure they get 3000 racers
