Anyone have an idea of when the new Demo 8 frame will be available for purchase?

I spoke in detail with a Specialized test rider this year at Whistler. He was riding the new green and black Demo7. He said its a late production run this year, as they are still working out some issues. He said December / January.

The shop that sponsors our team did a quick initial look into the Demo 7 since a few of us will be rocking them, and he said that as of now it is March, however, he was going to talk with the Specialized rep to look further into it.

Just looked at the Specialized business site and both 7 and 8's are listed as late Feb. Demo 9's are in stock now.

What makes you say that? Those two frames are exactly the same.
No they're not. The red one's teh 8 and the brown one pictured is the 7.

They aren't making 9s so I don't know where whoever said they're in stock got the idea unless they're talking about 06s.

The Demo 7 has about 7 inches of travel, a bit different geo and a 1.5 HT. The Demo 8 has a 1 1/8 HT, approx. 8 inches of travel, making it more of a race bike.

The Demo 9's he is talking about are 2006 models. I work at a shop and I am going to do whatever I can to get my hands on one of those Demo 7's.

No. If the 7 had a shorter shock it would be slacker than the 8 which it isn't. There are some changes, and the 7 has a 1.5 HT. They're similar, not the same.
They are both the same bike. Just the demo 7 has a 1.5. What makes them different is the shuttle, not a shorter shock, largextracheese.

I wouldn't count on those 'stickers' being removeable either. I have two 07 specialized bikes so far (Fuse 4 and a Roubaix Comp) and neither has removeable stickers, there is a clear coat over them. I'm trying to decide between the SX Trail III and the Demo 7.

Jimbo the Biker: I was in the same boat as you between which one to buy. What do you plan on doing with the bike? If you already own a trail/AM bike then the Demo 7 would be more useful if you planned on racing or freeriding. If you need something that is all around, I would say do the SX Trail III. What are your plans?

The 7 does have a shorter shock. Read the specs.
Demo 7 8.5x2.375
Demo 8 8.75x2.75

I'm guessing the only difference is the 1.5 and shock length.
The shorter shock and shorter fork spec (Totem) explain the geometry differences in the frames. If you look down the geometry numbers it's as plain as day. I don't understand whay they wouldn't spec both bikes with the 1.5 and put a reducer headset instead on the 8. This would let the Demo8 owners have more choices in forks.

Mixing words. They are the same frame, with different shocks, and different shock shuttles. You could turn one into the other without issue.

rpk: well, I sold my bighit, and I do still have a AM/Trail bike (SC Heckler), I was considering getting rid of the heckler and getting the SX Trail III.... or I would just keep the heckler and get a Demo 7. Sounds like I've got a little bit of time to make up my mind though. I also heard that the Demo 7's suspension improved a bit this year over last year's Demo-8's. I can't wait for more reviews/rider feedback on it.

Don't count on the designs of the Turner DHRs being stickers either. It's looking like not only does the 6-pack have no stickers, but the 5-spot has no stickers that are easily removable either. Therefore the DHR has no stickers.

Since the Heckler is a great AM bike, I would say get a Demo 7. You are in the same shoes that I am in. My buddy bought and SX Trail and its a sweettt bike. He does everything on it and it holds up great. But he never had an AM bike before. I cant wait to get my hands on a Demo 7 II. Which one were you thinking about getting?

hmmm...you mean ONE more choice, the choice to put on a 7 inch single crown 1.5 inch thick steerer tubed fork on it and screw up the intended geometry of a lightweight DH speced bike? Lame.:brow:

If you want to run a 1.5 headtube bike, you have no need to buy a Demo 8 because the only available travel 1.5 steerer forks are all 7 inchs travel. So go buy a 7 inch travel bike with a 1.5 inch steerer.:busted:
