Hey! I just picked up a mp3 player today...I had the 1st gen iPod back in the day and had nothing but trouble with it, so i decided to wait a while to get a new mp3 player...Welll i got the opportunity to get a new player today greatly discounted, so i took the opportunity :)

I ended up getting the Sandisk Sansa e260 MP3 Player. Its 4gig flashdrive with movie mode, photo mode, fm radio (i love me some morning radio) , voice recorder, and mp3 player. Its also about the size of a ipod nano, but it has a micro SD slot to expand the memory :)

I LOVE IT! Im going to pick up an armband for it on monday, im stoked to listen to jams now when i ride... So what do you guys /gals have?

I have an old Sony Rio, at least I think it was made by sony. One that came with an armband. It only has 128mb of storage. I used to use that alot. Then I bought a Creative Zen Sleek Photo 20g thinking it would be great, not too big, plenty of storage space. I have to give it credit, it is a very nice upgrade. However, I cannot find anyone who makes an armband for it. I am pretty pissed. I have been looking for months, oh well, I guess it's back to the Rio.

How do you like the Sansa? I like the fact that you can just pop in a new memory card and go.

I have a Creative Zen that I use on longer rides. Its awesome for those hard uphills. Mostly I have Pink Floyd, Death Cab For Cutie, Bob Marley, Led Zeppelin, etc. Can't stand hardcore or metal when riding though.

I tried riding with music a few times and hated it. I liked it for the ride up but I like to hear my tires and the wind when Im going DH.

riding park and trails require music. i have a creative zen micro with a special 'riding' playlist. lately i've been riding to pretty mellow stuff. gorillaz and broken social scene among others. listen to podcasts when i'm not riding.

I don't ride with music but if I were to do so I would use an ipod shuffle. Its really small, and fairly cheap so if it got broken I wouldn't be totally devestated.

Depends. If I am riding with a lot of people, then I don't. But if I am by myself or in the zone I listen. I have a Sansa flash drive 4 GB mp3 player.

Ditto. I can deal with tunes on the way up, but down? I got to hear what my tires are doing!

I've decided not to use it on the way up either since I've had so many close calls with riders coming down when I'm distracted by heavy metal and sweating my ass off:banana:

Same here...part of the reason I ride is to get away from all the technology and noise...plus I feel safer knowing one of my senses isn't dulled...D

I just use my mind, to tell the truth. I'm only thinking of DH riding/racing, though....found myself stuck on a few tunes from the Hellacopters' "Rock and Roll is Dead" at my race yesterday. Of course it didn't help that I was 'tuned internally' to my music when I crashed into a couple of slalom poles and got wrapped up in course tape on my race run....

i use my Ipod every once and a while, i find it really relaxing to rip up trails with all kinds of music. i can zone and really focus on my riding, but i find i ride great with music on fast, flowy trails, but if im doing big drops and technical stuff i dont land as smoth.

yah so far i am trying to use it on low volume levels, so if im going fast i can hear anything thats going on around me, and only when at a slow cruising speed can i truely hear only music. It makes for a good ride :) I love the radio shows in the morning when i commute on my bike to work, so its great :)

I've tried a few times over the years but just don't like how earphones and music block out the sounds around me. Plus I hate extra gadgetry when I'm riding. I used to really like having music for ramp and jump sessions and stuff, so either I just don't like earphones or I'm getting old. Love my ipod - at home.

Creative Zen micro with 8Gigs of storage!!! when i ride around town i listen to Jurassic 5, beastie boys, flowy stuff. If riding with friends i dont listen to music, to much of a pain in the but to stop and try to turn off your Mp3.

Camelpack is coming out with a new pack that lets you plug in your phone and Mp3 into it with universal controls on the arm straps.

now thats sweet...I am going to get an armband for mine on wednsday, the actionjacket, so i can access the controls while riding to skip the "interludes" in albums and also vary the volume... I am also debating upgrading it to the 6 gig player also, i have 14 days to decide...
