Trying to find some skillz...
I had the bike built the end of July and had been riding it, my scale was just packed up and didn't get out to RI until last week.

Bike weight 43.2 pounds.

I thought this was pretty interesting mainly because I wasn't "tainted" by the scale before I rode the bike, and my impressions were that the bike was light and very nimble (not that 43 pounds is heavy).

The build was pretty straightforward:
'06 Izimu - large
Swinger (Steel Spring)
Fox 40 RC2 (Ti Spring)
Howitzer/Holzfellers w/38T Ring and E13
Mavic 721's on Marz. 20mm, Azonic 150mm, and 2.0 DTs
2.5 Minions with 2.7 Maxxis DH Tubes
Hayes HFX
Cane Creek S1 HS
Pro Taper OS bars
Thomson X50
X9 drivetrain
ODI's
Thomson post
SDG BelAir Ti saddle
545 pedals

That's about it. I'm sure I could take off at least a pound in the wheels if I went tubeless and used DB spokes. Other than that, I'm not sure what else I would change. Revox with a Ti spring? I thought about going back to a Shimano drivetrain, but not sure about the weight gain/savings.

Ultimately, I think the bike rides great - so maybe I won't change anything!

Don't change a thing, thatat's a great build. Take the money you would drop on an new part and spend it on lift tickets or a trip to a mountain that you have never ridden at!

Post some pics man!!! I would look into the Cane Creek DB rear shock. I almost got the Revox for my old Izumu and instead got the DHX. What you have now is just as good as both as long as you have it tuned right. The only better option would be the DB. I ran tubeless on mine as well and loved it. Like Dave said save the money and go ride it!!!!!!

Yeah - I debated waiting to post the results of the weigh in, without pics. Figured I would finally snap some tonight and edit them in, now that my camera is unpacked. Pics to follow...

Advice on the spec has been noted. That was kind of my point as I was writing this, bike feels great - so why mess with it?

Off to spin class and weights now...

That sounds allot concidering its not the heaviest build and the fame is only 9lbs, it might be worth having a look into a different shock, i hate manapoo, and mabie some lighter wheels but thats a pretty solid build!

that is great advice for sure. even if you have a clapped out ride, it's better to ride a clapped out bike on a rad ass trail, than a rad ass bike on a ****ty trail. i've tried to live by that motto my whole life.

Right on, I've been catching a lot of flack lately for having clapped out stuff. But I'm inbetween jobs right now and I don't have money to replace every little imperfect part on my bike, so I'll keep riding clapped out stuff as long as I get to ride.

Here's my Izimu. Using the unofficial bathroom scale I weighed it at 42 lbs

You guys are making me feel better about my ~44lb Sunday. Not that it rides heavy either, but compared to my teammate's new 36.6lb Socom...
The Morewoods look sweet, btw.

LOL yeah right, you ride sick ass bikes on rad trails, so that motto doesn't count.

Dude, Brian broke his right wrist at Fontana yesterday. Navicular bone broken and another one dislocated. He's gonna get surgery today. That makes three broken people within a one mile radius in Los Osos. WTF?!

Maybe we should start riding clapped out bikes again, cuz no one really got hurt on those old deathtraps we used to call bikes...

Nice rides! Yeah, the bike seems pretty dialed at the moment - but it is interesting looking at all the different builds here and the similarity in weights.:clue:

Well except for Mr. Linder's. I think he has helium in his frame tubes.:brows:

I'll spend my coins on a BMX bike instead.

I think bike weights are like age and waist size. No body really tells the truth. Yours is 43 with DH tubes with mid weight rims. dhpunk~ is at 42 with DH tubes and heavy rims. I weight my very unofficially with the bathroom scale and its 42 with XC tubes and one really light rim and one mid weight rim. I'm not even going to comment on FCLinder's. :brow:

I weigh it on the work scales that FedEx uses here at my work. My wheel set was super light with the tubeless setup. Plus mine was a small frame.

I actually weighed mine with a digital fish scale. It's surprisingly accurate. I think it was about $20 from Gander Mountain.

I checked it with freeweight plates and it checked out 100% on 5s, 10s, 25s, 35s, and 45s, within .1 pounds.

I highly recommend one...

FC - not baggin' on your bike weight - just wanted to bait someone with old "helium in the tubes" weight reduction theory:brows: .

any of you guys running the floaters?

i've run it maybe 12 times in 2 years. i can certainly feel the difference when braking throught rough terrain but i think my riding technique works best without it......dunno, i guess i like to push the rear out, seems to work best when the wheel stays ontop of the hits oppose to falling into hits with an active rear (with floater).

just wondering wether any of you switch the floater out for different conditions, or preference.....thats all!!

Ran one for 2 weekends. It worked great. Got rid of the brake jake. The only thing I didn't like was hearing the floater making noise agnist the frame. Took it off then.

i run mine all the time. I had an older morewood that i had no choice as to run it or nto because you needed a different swingarm to not run it. So i haven't ridden my izimu without it. I feel it works well and is of benefit but that could be just in my head. Not many others run floaters on them and Orange seem to have ditched the option from the 224. Must try it without and see how it goes.

I had said this in a different post, but all I know is if I'm experiencing "brake jack" I sure don't realize, or think, about it.

Maybe I'm just used to it, but I don't think it impacts my riding in any way.

the crew above has the right idea.

Run what ya brung.
I get that 'upgrade' idea in my head all the time for my mark III, my Imperial.. heck, for all of my bikes ....
truthfully for no reason except to do it....

Instead, i saved the money and bought quality energy bars to eat during or before my ride so I can ride longer. Proper nutrition during a ride has always been one of my weaknesses. I suggest Clif Bars because they use good ingrediants, they taste good for energy bars and they support the programs that keep our trails open.
I like some other bars like the Kashi 'Crunch' I think that is what they are called... odwalla are solid too.

what shock position do most of you guys run yours in?

I run mine in the second from top hole. I suffer from a little bit of tire rub on the back of the seattube when i have it in the slackest setting.

al-irl, I love the Dorado you got on there. I had an 05 on mine for just a bit and it preformed so well with it. It had such a nice and low front end. Very nice.

Guys, I've ridden these bikes with Swingers and with Cane Creeks. You have NO idea the difference it makes. I highly suggest one. Its like night and day.

I flip my link and run it second from the bottom.

I'm really happy with the dorado as its working very well. My only problem is that im too heavy for the stock springs and i've been having trouble tracking down a firm ride kit for it. So i'm having to run a fair bit of compresion damping to stop it blowing through the travel, which is fine for most of the stuff I ride in Ireland but when i was in Les Gets this summer it wasn't working to well.

Was thinking of getting an 888 air for it but i think it will raise the front end a bit and it won't look anywhere near as cool.

Not sure what to do am still trying to track down springs but i could be waiting a while

Don't know if you can tell from the pic, but I run mine in the second hole from the top.

The fork is as low as it can go in the 8" setting. Not sure how much more I want to play with set up, since I really like it where its at right now. Long, low, slack...

A little somethin' like this, with dual mtx w/ ringle hubs, 2.5 kendas, one XC, one DH tube, SDG I beam to bel-air, Ti springs both ends, light mag flat pedals. Sitting right around 40lbs.
Note worthy, Small frame 350lbs spring, fork at 7" shock mount all the way toward the head tube. For a 150lbs, 5'8" rider.

I had a quick look at mine and i reckon it would drop the bb another 5-10 mm not sure what that would make the head angle other than super slack. Must try it and see what happens but i reckon it will make the tire rub issue even worse must remember to screw in the air volume adjuster on the dhx when i do.
