so a little birdie told me a rumor that is quite interesting. Don't hold me to it, since it's being looked into... & is not for certain at the moment.

We all know that the WC & NORBA schedules have a tendancy to change after they're released. Well the latest rumor about a potential change is that ANGELFIRE might be replaced with an EAST COAST Venue (no idea where just yet).

I loved Angelfire, but it would be exciting to see an east coast venue. Supposedly, this change is to make it easier to travel after Mont-Sainte-Anne. (the current travel itinerary is MSA - to Angelfire - to Austria...)

I'll keep ya posted if i hear anything futher.

That would be awesome to goto. I think that would help the sport on the east coast to, seeing a Big race like that around here. I would definately be down for that.

Can we throw out names or is that not kosher? I can only picture a few of the eastcoast mountains being able to pull it off. And yes, one possibilty(and best) is a half-a-day drive from Mt. Saint Anne.

Towing the party line.
I highly doubt it would be plattekil. That place is an absolute dump and has absolutely none of the amenities to hold a World Cup caliber event. There are 2 or 3 east coast venues, both above and below the border, that could handle a World Cup with ease; Plattekil isn't one of them.

There have been rumours since the original schedule was released (as well as before it), and if all works well, it will probably end up at one of those. It woudl certainly make life easier on everyone who has to travel, that is for sure.

Hey Mr. Rumormill,

That would be interesting.
Angelfire - good course, poor location. Regional race - thumbs up. World Cup race venue. thumbs down.
3 hour drive from Albuquerque. Albuquerque is not really close to any other large city, nor a haven for mtn bike enthusiasts.
We need spectators PLUS awesome course. That means close to big cities and a great course.
Plus - the MSA 2 AngelFire 2 Austria schedule is crazy.

 - Anyone else freaked out by this dancing banana? it creeps me out....

We may have to re think this whole pit area arrangement for Mt Snow and MSA. Also, what does your lady think of this?

Side comment... did you see a production Orange 223 yet? If so, does is have IOLD out of whack or I05?

aahh.... nnah... I will just email you on Monday.....

in no paticular order, the only 3 i could imagine being able to pull it off are: Mt. Snow, Bromont, and Whiteface. Diablo, maybe, but the uci usually goes for places with higher elevation. of course, they did pick Wilingen and Calgary so who knows. would require shutting the water park down to fit everything so i would put my money or the other 3.

The "very close to MSA" part implies either Whiteface or Bromont, with Whiteface being the more obvious choice. So, I'll say whiteface.

Hey snuccoms- Is that sarcasm or are you being serious? I can't tell.

Michael
No sarcasm there. Lake Placid may be a small town but the ability to host an even of this size is EASILY there. I believe there is something like 15,000-20,000 hotel rooms within 15 minutes driving distance of the mountain. Unfortunately on site lodging is pretty much non existant. The mountain offers 2,500 ft vertical in the summer and just shy of 3,500 ft vertical in the summer. Easily big enough to hold a LONG World Cup downhill course.

Lake Placid has held countless amounts of World Cup competitions in addition to hosting the 1932 & 1980 Winter Olympics and the Winter Goodwill Games. For example this winter alone there will be a total of six World Cup events on tap in Lake Placid: Men's and Women’s Bobsled, Skeleton, Freestyle Skiing, Nordic Combined, and Snowboarding. A World Cup bike race would be no problem compared to some of these events.

I have not recently heard a rumor of a WC race in Lake Placid yet but I know they have talked about it in the past.

I would like see a more southern course but I don't think thats very feasable. We don't have as many riders(I don't think) and I'm having trouble coming up with a place that could host it.

Just thought of another couple of places. Sugarbush, Sunday River, Sugarloaf, Stowe, and Killington. All of those places could probably pull it off. However, Whiteface still sounds like the best place IMO.

Wow - a World Cup on the East Coast would be insane...

I would definitely go, even if it was just to watch and hang out.

I'm guessing Stratton VT.?

Stratton is an interesting one that might be able to pull it off. It is one of IntraWests most major East Coast resorts and I could see them wanting to place some mtb presence there. That being said IntraWest doesent seem too have to much interest in the UCI lately.
That and Stratton would be really flat on a DH bike.

I really am interested to hear which resort it is that is the possibility. I really think Bromont is most likely. Whiteface would be much cooler because it is literally my backyard. Hunter Mtn. has hosted UCI World Cups in the past do they want one back???

Some of those other resorts mentioned (Killington, Sunday River, Sugarbush, Sugarloaf) could also handle a MTB World Cup but their management has been pretty anti mountain bike the past 5 years or so. I find those to be unlikely possibilities.

Oh yeah I forgot about another one of the old school east coast world cups. Massanutten VA. Theyve done it in the past, do they want to do it again?

Can I strangle the little birdie into saying something else?

Just convince a UT resort to build a WC course. Winner!

Not Stratton, they used to have lift assisted MTB but strictly fire roads due to the forest service and bear population, heck 90% of the mountain were off limits. I do business with Hunter and they are just not into it, I'll bet most east coast riders don't even know they are open in the summer.

Nor do I suspect most of these East Coast Gnar Core's know that Hunter already held a WC, back in Grundig days. (Most of them were still in diapers.) 1993 I think. (Senility is setting in.) First big mtb event I attended. Hans Rey was really badly injured in the downhill. He was doing both DH and Trials.

(btw, Sir Vicious, where the hell is that hockey sched?!!)

Wow, thanks for the memory jog. I remember seeing the crash in Level Vibes! He got bucked by a waterbar on a very high speed section of trail.

It's been official for a while now though, theyre hiring some uci guys to build the course (supposely going to be somewhat of what we saw at nationals this year) This is old news im suprised there hasnt been a post about it until now

I heard the forest service would not allow Mt Snow to run two races off the top of the mtn in one year? I remember a few years back they tried to get on the UCI schedule and NCS schedule but the forest service shut them down. Did something change?

Where are you getting your information?
