Hey, check it out: Our 1st home purchase.......I've been meaning to put these up, but just haven't had the time lately. We signed the offer to purchase contract this evening and put in a good faith deposit, and........off we go!!!

Talk about a busy January.....our closing is set for the 16th, and Greyhound Jr. is supposed to arrive around the 23rd---what's left of my hair will have met an untimely demise by then I'd be willing to bet!

Anyways, the specs: Built in 1970, this solid double-hip rambler is tough enough to handle all of your growing family can dish out. At 1950sq. ft.(2400 with garage),it features a family room that's 17x35ft. With 4 bedrooms(2 upstairs, 2 down) and 3 baths, there's ample room to wash the dirt off......Also, a funky feature if this hip pad, is a Nu-Tone in house stereo system with intercom interface so you always keep those important lines of communication open wherever you are. Groovy!!! :clapping:

But all kidding aside......I was pretty impressed with the amount of space this house has---there's closets everywhere. Justine really, really likes that.............:twitch:

It's got a new roof, new HVAC, new vinyl siding, paint and carpet, so it's pretty much move-in condition.....but it is a little dated here and there....most notably the kitchen. But that's not something we can't work around, and I like doing that kind of stuff anyways, so it's all good. So, we're pretty stoked, but definately nervous about making the transition in time for when the kid gets downloaded. The yard is pretty big(3/4 acre in all) so there's plenty of room for the dog to chill out---and a basketball hoop so I can get my dunk on!

I love North Carolina property values :D

$136k buys you a rundown shack in NH.
Really? Dang..........so I'm assuming average incomes are much higher in NH?

We felt like we got a lot of house for the $$ with only minor cosmetic improvements needed. I think with a little spackling and some napalm, it would make a great mosoleum. :twitch:

Holy fawk thats nice! Congrats! Glad you and your wife like the place. I'm sure it was a good thing the other seller didn't take your offer.

The house would probably cost about $100k more here. In Cali it would be $1Million

Oh........believe me, I was such the bad guy when I wanted to walk away from the previous house. She was not happy with me for that, but I knew the deal was bad, and something better was bound to materialize. I let the seller on this one counter-offer and then just made 'em wait it out for a whole weekend before I responded. By Monday, they were ready to come off the price another 2K to make it happen. I won all the cool points back, and she's decided to let me live a little while longer. :clapping:

Wow.........I'm stunned. Who makes that kind of money?

The house we're renting is approx the same size and we're expecting to pay $150k more for it than yours house cost. It's also coming with 7acres though.

Sweet......7 acres is awesome! That's pretty wild what they're charging for real estate up North. I had no idea it was that inflated......maybe I don't feel so bad now.

That's a good street hockey driveway - except you'd have to put plexiglass in where all those windows are - is that sort of a sun room/porch?

That brick wall makes for pseudo street hockey boards. :)

The pay isn't that inflated either. It's just very expensive to live in the northeast.

Before I moved, I was paying $800/mo for a kinda beat up 2 bedroom apartment that was between 700 and 800 sq. ft., and that was a pretty good deal.

In the area we lived, the average income wasn't significantly higher, especially not compared to how much higher the cost of living was. NH also has outrageous property taxes, to make up for the fact that there's no income/sales tax.

If a choice has to be made, then I would definately take Westerners over Yankees. HOWEVER, I'd prefer everyone just visit and then go back to wherever they came from.
That's very southern of you... :D

Edit: Out of curiosity - are "Yankees" those from the NE? Or do the include the heathens living further west like in Ohio, Indiana, etc?

A house at that price would last 30seconds in our market.

'Yankee" to me, means anyone north of the Mason-Dixon---but that doesn't mean I trust Maryland, either!!!

Once you cross into the heartland(Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, etc.) you pretty much get the same kind of personalities you find in the South. There are places in Illinois I've been where I was like "Damn........these guys are way better at being redneck than we'll ever be!"

This one lasted about 3 months.........and even then, we just toyed with 'em for awhile until they got into our ballpark. We also secured a 100% loan with no origination fee and only $1500 in closing costs!!

Slam dunk.

You should go up to Michigan some time. It's the heart of the south in the north. :D

After living thru the War of Yankee Migration over the last 10 years, I've come up with a very specific definition of Yankee. As far as I am concerned a Yankee is someone from somewhere else that will not shut the fvck up about wherever they came from and how pissant awful here is. The shocking thing is that it is not the minority of folks that seem to have been sold into slave labor and moved to here.

That's the most accurate summation I've ever heard. Strong work!!
