So next year will be my first year of "real" racing, i only raced once last year, and am racing 8-15 races this year. I wanna sign up for JR X, but norbas site says you need two top 5 finishes in sport first. anyone know if there picky about this or if you can make the jump to jr x? (i didnt have a license last year). reason im asking is because a couple friends are making the jump from beginner to jr x. . . . .

thanks
Eren

The rule is enforced. I got denied the 1st try but on the 2nd try I got my upgrade to JR. X with better finishes.

Its a tough class.

Yeah take their advise if your just starting out!
you probably don't want any of these boys yet
unless you are talented beyond your experience
or have past talent in BMX at that level that may
get you in there.

It's good to get some experience with guys close
to your speed though, Nats. will prob. do that in sport.

The top Jr. X guys are capable of putting times in with
the middle of the pro field, they are just smart to stay
Jr. to get the same needed experience.

yea just race sport first, jrx can be pros/semi-pros that are young enough to still race it.

though if you are just as fast as your jrx friends then go for it, my first dh race I raced exp 19-29 did ok, ended up on the podium every race after, won one race that year. I would have raced sport but some of my racer friends said I should race exp.

see what your friends think.

it isn't as bad as some of you might think. if you can ride some of the tougher courses with some speed then you can handle jr x. and hey, if you finish poorly it will just be something to push towards

annual? or for the day? you need an anual one for jr x and above. so you purchase an annual at any local race?
its gunna be alot easier if you chose to buy your liscense at a local race, opposed to buying one straight through NORBA. they will be a little more critical of the rule.

if it comes down to it you can easily BS someone at a local race to give you the jr x liscense.

Semi pro's, experts, and jrx's are required to buy annual licenses. There is no one-day license.

If you've never raced before I would recommend doing your first in sport. Riding with your buddy who races jrx is alot different than racing with him. Not saying you can't hang, but if you've never done a race, then you really don't know where you stand in a race environment. Thats my 2 cents.

What races are you planning to hit? Local Jr. X may be good
experience, that is the key to doing well in a "race invironment"
I know a lot of fast guys that takes em a bit to put it all together
and be competitive at National level. That's the point some are
trying to make, not that you can't rip bro-you are young you have time to kick everyones butt!

If you gotta have it - I'd say make up a resume with the
BMX results shown also. If you raced in BMX expert class
that will have some bearing on gettin the nod.
It helped my buddy get his semi-pro license.
Maybe say you did a couple locals on the mtb.
Don't claim you won a national or anything but,
they won't check up on you too much-

I mis-read your post. You can get an annual at most races.

How well did you do in the races you previously entered?

I just have to say make sure you can hang at least mid-pack at a big race in JrX before you move up. I moved up quickly, but luckily I was never at the back of the pack. I moved up to get experience in real racing and to get away from being stuck behind people, and now I know how it feels to be further to the top of the results sheet, and it sucks to have to deal with slow riders. For example at Sea Otter I was stuck behind a kid I knew to be a crappy rider who had somehow snuck into JrX, fortunately he got off the course quick but if he hadn't I would have been very mad.

I guess if you're just doing local stuff then it's not a big deal, and from what you said you sound quick. I'm just not a fan of beginner riders sneaking into a class where they can't hang.

Buy a one day license first race of the year and race sport. If you decimate them, move up to JrX and get an annual.

There's lots of people who do exactly what you're planning on doing and get assraped in a class they shouldn't be in (even though they think they should be), and they quit racing.
