Alright i have around 500 to spend or so. I was wondering what should i replace. I might put a dhx that i found for 225 dollars on, and a cheap jr t. Then maby some juicy 5s? I know the fork isn't good, but i don't have much money at the time and would probly replace it when i get a job.
This is a pic of the bike right now.

I think I would replace the fork before the shock but that deal does sound good for the dhx, for a fork I would try to get an 06 66 rc2x or sl, or an 03 or 04 super t, 03 is the best year. a boxxer ride(w/ u-turn) would be ok too.

keep your current brakes, you can get some better pads if you need to, but those brakes are fine, unless you need to bleed them.

remember to sell your current fork or rear shock after you get a replacement, this will increase your bike fund so you can spend more!

Um, it's SO not worth it to dump money into that bike. It works fine as is. I say save up, sell that bike, and buy a used bike for cheeeep if you upgrade at all.

if nothing is broken why fix it? keep riding and then once you brake something get it fixed. I would also recomend looking for a used bike, better builds for less money.

The reason i wana replace this stuff is becuase im trying to turn my bike into a racerish bike, i might just replace the frame and keep the fork.

I don't think there's anything wrong with that bike, with a high end fork and shock and an upgraded wheelset it could sit next to quite a few of the single pivot bikes that are trendy at the moment and nobody would think anything of it other than the name. For whatever reason people think if an Iron Horse isn't a Sunday it isn't worth owning, sure there may be a slight performance advantage but I'd be very suprised if the quality of the construction were any different.

i have to agree as well...a buddy of mine had one fo those for a whiel and it was a blast to ride. he switched the fork to an older super-t pro and made few small changes for persoal preference and that bike was unbreakable. iron horse makes a good product and not everyone has the desire or ability to own 4000.00 downhill bikes. other than the front fork and rear shock this bike isnt much different than bullit and many a racer started out their career on a bullit....

Go for a single ring and chain guide. You won't need a double for DH racing, it just adds weight and complexity to the bike.

A new fork would be nice.

Wider bars and a shorter stem would help a lot.

I'd try to get the DHX in a bit of a shorter size, then loose a little travel and get better geometry for racing. I think that could be a very competitive bike, even with it's suspension, as long as you set up the cockpit right and get the angles low and slack.

Get some Maxxis tires, shorter stem, lose the headset spacers, and go single ring if you can do it cheaply.....

I all ready have some new girps on it. I think the shock im puting is a bit small then the one i have now, but it has the same stroke. So i wouldnt be loosing travel, and i have a more racer style gemoetry. I think ill get the shock, then fork, then a chain guide. Should have it dh ready before summer i hope.

Be carefull about buying a shorter shock with the same stroke because your tire might bottom out on the frame before the shock bottoms out. You might be surprised by how much you bottom out your suspension.

well, just an FYI the length of that shock is 9x2.75, and Fox only makes an 8.75x2.75. it's not recommended to go to a shorter i-i (company policy), but it will fit and will slacken the head angle and lower the bb (both good for racing). then I'd suggest going to an SRS as it's essential to keep your chain on if you plan on getting down the hill quickly. then lastly I'd see if you can scrape together enough for a good used fork, something along the lines of an '02-04 SuperT, Boxxer Ride, maybe something like this which can be upgraded down the line with motion control. there's nothing wrong with SP's for racing, and 7" with good geo (after the shorter shock) is fine for starting out.

:)

edit - the only issues you might have with the shorter shock is tire-seat contact. just something to keep in mind.

Those are solid frames, i like'em alot. Get the DHX, don't bother with the jr.t, it won't be any better than what you've got on there. Spend whatever else you got on wheels and tires, that will make the biggest difference, save for a fork later.

you wouldnt bottom out the shock on the frame if like say the current shock is 9x2.75 and if you bought a shock where the stroke shrunk the same as the eye-to-eye (8.75x2.5) then it wouldnt bottom out, but good luck finding one.

i agree on the boxxer teams, you can get them pretty cheap online, i think cambriabike.com

i would get some maxxis high roller tires, dh tubes/xc tubes depending on what pressures you run, a cheap/good fork, second hand would do. drop offs have bad damping.

the rear shox is fine. the brakes are fine. use the wheels untill they die, if you take care of them and check the tension every now and again they will last. unless you are dropping your chain, dont worry about a chain guide

i am pretty sure you are ready to blow $500 just from temptation, we all know that all too well. but just upgrade the bare minimum.

like other have said over and over agian, the bike is fine.

good luck and have fun. :)

definitely go for new rear shock. ride qulality is what you should be after. best bang for your buck. I've run those rims for over a year on dh courses and burly freeride stuff, they're indestructable. Fork would also be good. Like has previously been said, don't worry about drive train or brakes unless you are having a problem.

I was looking at the boxxer ride 06's. They all got good reviews, I saw a few on ebay for like 450 a while ago. Has any one road one or have and ideas? My fork bottoms out on what seems every thing now, its either really high rebound and barely moves, or good rebound and bottoms out off drops.

I already have new grips haha, but yeah if it wernet for the bottoming out id be fine. Might be a bit skechie racing, but its the time that counts, not only the style or set up.

Even though you will loose travel, you do gett a slacker bike. So there is still a posative to getting a shorter shock

I might just put a cheap jr t, i need somthing that will hold up, then when i get a job over the summer or somthing buy a better fork. Some one is selling a manito 4 way for 125 dollers, so ill proably go with that for now.

you'd be a lot better off buying a chainguide and some better tires rather than buying suspension components that are a half-step up from where you're at now. buy something that is going to work good, last long, and be a noticeable improvement over what you've got.
