Which 2007 race series?

Somehow I came up with the idea that this would be a good year to start a race team. We have the sponsor support, we have the mildly offensive jerseys, we even have a beer company giving us free suds.

Now I just have to work out where this little misadventure on wheels is going to do what it does.

Does anyone have suggestions for which race series we ought to hit? For the bulk and majority of the team we are based out of the South East from Virginia Beach to as far north as NYC. Geographic proximity for most of us is a concern, though myself and a few others have interest in something akin to the NMBS races, though this years venues seem to have "Damn, we sold the hell out" written all over them.

Some of us can afford to hoof around on airplanes, and there are a couple of us with real chances of maybe making it to a Nationals and if possible a Worlds.

So if anyone has any bright ideas on where we should do this, I could really use the help.

I was hoping just being old might get me over the border into France.

Does the Mountain States Cup qualify for Nats and Worlds?

Considering your location, what about the Diablo Domination Series or any of the Racer's Edge stuff? I think the RA races are NORBA if you're interested in National ranking points.
...and if you want to venture further north, hit up the Mt. Snow series & the Nat's there; you could also stitch in some corresponding dates from the Plattekill NYS series as well as the Whiteface race series.

Of course! I'm an idiot...these are worth hitting too. ProFro was making trips up to Diablo from the Windroick area I believe, all summer....

The Mountain States Cup races will qualify you for the National Championship.

The Worlds Master as others have said you just have to be old enough to race.

The Mountain States race at Angel Fire in 2005 was the only event in the last two years in the U.S. that riders could qualify for a UCI point.

I would not waste my time and money with the NMBS.

Hey Cory,

We've been over this before...you need to specify WEST Kansas. East Kansas has bigger hills than Michigan.

You're going to hurt someone's feelings!:brow:

That being said - living on the East Coast again does beat Kansas for DH action....:brows:

not true...NMBS races gave wc points to either top 10 or 20 depending on turnout and such for all pro downhills.

I am sort of in agreement with you in being done with the NMBS, especially with this years "venues." North Carolina was the business, but Sonoma and Fontucky? WTF...

The East Coast Gravity Series should be right up your alley.

Still in development, the Super Series will hopefully consist of one race from each promotor on the east coast and will ultimately provide more prize money than any other series in the states. Thus far it looks like the series will make stops at: Massanutten,Va. Plattekill,NY. Mt. Snow,Vt. Whitetail,Pa. Whiteface,NY and possibly Reading, Pa. Official announcements should be made by the end of January.

With the introduction of the National Race Calendar by NORBA, there will be more races than just the NMBS that count as "nationals" and will allow riders to qualify for World Cups, if I understand things correctly. There will be at least two races in the Mountain States Cup that are part of the National Race Calendar, and other races/series in the country should be stepping up as well. If those races will be qualifiers to make the US Worlds Team I don't know, but they should get you points to race World Cups.

At least, this is the way I am understanding the way things are going right now.

Nope. They only gave points to top 10 (E2 event) a few years ago, in they hay day of the sport i believe they had E1 status for awhile (20 deep). The amount of riders deep the points goes depends on the UCI event status, NOT the amount of people who turn up. UCi statu sis granted by the meeting a specific set of requirements, not the least of which being a minimum payout amount for each class.

In the last few years there has been NO UCI points status, as they do not meet the minimum UCI payout requirements.

If the races meet the minimum payout, pay the fees and house the commisares, they can easily get UCI E2 status. From what I understand however, this will be left entirely up to the promoter to handle, so my guess is you may see one or 2 of the bigfoot series races do this and no one else.

Actually UCI did award points last year at some US races. I did not think they did until I started looking at which US riders had points and where they got them.

Races that awarded points in the US in 2006:

NMBS#6 race in Snowmass
National Championships

Partially true, but also incorrect. Snowmass NORBA had UCI points last year awarded to the top 10. Check the UCI site.

The MSC race was mentioned, and nationals are not part of a national series. No matter what, a national championship will award UCI points, not sure which level, but there is no payout to meet as it is a guaranteed no purse event. The Series as a whole, did not offer points.

THe MSC at Snowmass did not have points. It was the NMBS race at Snowmass that awarded points last year.

Racer's Edge Inc. is doing it's part to guarentee the development and success of the new east coast super series. To date, at least one Mid-Atlantic Cup race will meet the criteria to be included in the UCI points calandar and will guarentee a minimum $5000 pro purse. As of now, that event is slated to take place at Whitetail, located in Mercersburg, Pa. More details will be posted as they become available.....Happy new year eveyone!
