My lady and I have next weekend off and looking at deals for a lil getaway. How is Eugene? I haven't been to too many places in the West but have always been intrigued by Oregon. Is it a fairly lively town, so much so that we can just walk around town and find a good time? Is it possible to just drive around and explore? I'm thinking about cruising to the coast which only seems about fifty miles west. Maybe driving north to Corvallis and check it out there. Or is traveling restricted because of weather?
TIA monkeys...

Wait, you want to spend part of your vacation is Corvallis?

:twitch:

Eugene is fun, be sure to drop by 5th Street market if you go. And if you make your way out to the coast, Newport is a nice spot. Good little port area to meander about in and an aquarium. Oh, and some beaches here and there.

Currently it's very wet in these parts. Forcast say's the sun is supposed to pop out for few days this weekend but ya know how that goes. Slim chance of snow [as in less than an inch].
Not really a whole lot of lively city life. Depends on your interest whether you would finding it boring or interesting. There's a couple of brewery's worth checking out. I'd recomend High Street Brewery and Cafe for burger and beer. Here is the local rag for you to explore: Eugene Weekly
You can drive to your hearts content in any direction. Lots of greenery.
The coast is 45 minutes away and always a treat, albeit it cold and wet. Not much here in Corvallis.

Thanks for the info...
For Corvallis, I want to check out the campus and the town. I'm always down to grab a beer in a new spot. As far as Eugene we are checking out the Law school and campus. I lived in Flagstaff for a couple years and enjoyed it very much, I'm expecting the same atmosphere in Eugene.

I live in Eugene and its the best city to live in ... in Oregon.
Here's what you get...
Hippies, rednecks,yuppies,hicks,college yahoo's,hillbillies,growers,smokers,punk rockers,bulldykes,tweekers,wetbacks, hypochristians,devil worshippers,homeless,south hills,campus,6th and blair,hour to beach, hour to lifts,101.5 KFLY,Duck fans,Beaver haters,I-5,Hwy 126,Picadilly,Gun shows,Merry Hempsters, Floater,Critical Mass just to name a few.
Go to Oakridge Oregon up hwy 58. Its a burnt out logging town that about to become the next MTB mecca. Cheaper houses and 25 miles to the lifts and hundreds of miles of shuttle trails.

About the beach, be prepared for howling wind and to be sand blasted if its stormy. We have serious water moving here if your thinking about paddling out into the surf. If you snowboard we may be picking up a little fresh this week.

Food
Mexican hole in the wall...Los Morenas on River road
Hawiian Time on 18th for Haw chicken
Ring of Fire on 11th
19th st cafe.... down by campus....burgers and a taster beer platter

BMX track is by Autzen Stadium

In what way???? I lived in Sedona Az and know Flagstaff well. If a person can handle the rain then its easy choice. Flag is dry and the SFP's cant touch Oregon pow. Flag wishes it could be as hip a U-Greengene all they have is down town brown, the LumberJacks ,crappy punk rock scene, its the largest Ponderosa tinderbox in the USA.

Flag has a much lower BS vibe. I lived in Eugene for five years, and my main problem was that at least the closer you got to campus, the more "involved" in one another's business you found yourself.

Don't get me wrong, once I got out of Eugene and was into the woods, it was great. The town, however, just rubbed me slightly raw.

Hmm i don't see why not, probably to the lake or a couple short hikes to the waterfalls. Those are all pretty close to the road. Don't really know where the snow line is there...

There's an REI in Eugene you can likely get any maps you need.

Info on MRT conditions at "that other site": MTBR
[Coastal trail info also found in that thread] Keep in mind the snow level is supposed to be getting down to around 1000'. Heading east up into the Cascades could be tricky. Going west through the coastal range should not be a problem.
You also might try asking this same question in their Oregon Forum. It's predominantly frequented by riders from the Eugene area.
