Well, I found out today that I might be getting surgery to repair a possible torn ACL. I'll know for sure tomorrow when i found out the results of an mri. I f--@$% it up skiing on sunday. 2nd run of the day, I was just starting to get the goods when I had a lame crash right after skiing a tuff chute. O'well. Doc says I won't be able to return to racing for 9 months after the surgery! Happy trails

You wont be off a bike all together. When I did mine (at PA) once I started PT about three weeks post surgery. The Doc wanted me on my bike but the stipulation was no clips flats only and stick to flat trails like the CedarRiver trail.Wish you the best.

Bummer, Ethan.:(
Keep a positive mindset and do the PT like your life depends on it...which it kind of does. At least you'll get to spend more time with the wee-one.

p.s. - you probably wouldn't have tore yourself up on a snowboard!;)
I'm excited to hang out with the baby more. I'm not sure but I think Joy's a little glad. now she gets to ride and I get to watch the baby all the time. Yeah, I might not have tore myself up on a snowboard, but when you ski like a rock star ish happens!

Ya, I guess you two won't have to take turns riding.

Ethan - I'm really sorry to hear about your injury.

You might want to research some of the practices and methods from the Steadman Hawkins Clinic in Vail, CO and see whether your Ortho might be familiar. They pioneered (I'm pretty sure they were the first) a new technique several years ago where they will use either the hamstring or quadracept for the grafting thereby reducing recovery time and usually promoting greater range of motion.

More on the procedure here....
http://www.steadman-hawkins.com/acl/acl_recon.asp

After spending years competing in the bumps, I've seen lots of ACL/MCL scars and rehabs and I know that for pros, the Steadman Clinic is one of the best places you can go.

Hey Ethan, that sucks man, i'm realy sorry to hear that, I love riding against you and trying to keep up! You should talk to simon when you are doing PT, he has a whole type of exercise that involves mostly body weight and balance that is a huge help. I hope you hear good news. See you soon, get well.

Thanks bad munkey, that's a very informative web site. I found out that I'm getting refered to a sports specialist at 2:00pm today. I guess my ACL, collateral lateral ligement, lateral miniscus and maybe medial miniscus is torn. There's still too much swelling in the medial to tell for sure, at least that's what this doc said. Thanks everyone for your support it means alot. Nate don't worry Joy says she'll keep you on your toes this season:wave: just kidding.

Injuries are definitely a bummer. I posted awhile back that I tore my ACL and both meniscus ligaments and after getting the knee scoped I opted not to get the ACL repaired. There were a couple of other riders that posted the same thing about not repairing the ACL. Its probably something you want to get fixed but it is possible to delay it for a while and still race(bikes). Riding bikes isnt a problem but running is. The upside on not having surgery is that your never laid up. The downside -skiing, basketball, running might not work out.

just got back from the doc's...thank god for second opinions! My ACL is definaitly torn, but not all the way. All my other ligaments in knee he thinks just got stretch really bad. So he'll re-evaluate my knee in a month. He said it's not unheard of for an ACL torn over 50% to repair it's self. I'm keeping my fingers cross! If the prognosis is good I'll be riding again by spring:banana:

Hey Ethan, ive had a partial torn acl for some years now and not had any problems so far. The only thing i stay away from that I used to do is play soccer. Hopefully you wont have to have surgery.

Cool if you want i could come over with some roofing tools and rubber bands. We'll slice ya up and reinforce that torn ligament by nailing some rubber bands right into the bone, you'll be good as new in a few days. Throw some tar and glue in there for good measure.:imstupid:

Only if the tar is really hot and you rub it all over!
