Just about to graduate with a Secondary Ed. teaching degree and to say i'm burnt out on the program and my future career is an understatement. I am starting to research getting into the world of firefighting and was wondering what materials you suggest getting to study for the exam.

I like teaching, and it's immensly rewarding, but the politics of it all really have me bent. There is very little if any creativity, or freedom left as it's all become teach for the test.

Firemna make more, get better benefits, and better retirement. Get paid for their overtime, all in all a much better financial situation:monkey: .

I imagine i'll teach until I can test high enough to get on. Which is my main concern. Although, at every class i've ever really tried in i've gotten an A.

Tips, Hints, etc....For becoming a firefighter. Seriously, how hard is it to test in the top of the field. Sorry if I sound like a newb here.:poster_oops:

Any input appreciated.

Mizz.

Is cardio considered part of the overall test grade. Or is it just an obstacle to be passed.

In other words can I acheive a better overall score by having better cardio?

Thanks for the tips,
Mizzle

You can join the Air Force reserves, The have firefighters you would get all the training you need, plus have military on your resume, which usually gives you a few bonus points of consideration.

Don't know about Vagas but in NYC you pretty much have to know someone, need to get 100 on the test and be in the best shape you've ever been and it could still take 1-2 years before they call you. I've been a volunteer for 12 years and love it, but I'm also nuts according to friends :)

Wooo Tulips!!!!
Thewre are several ways to get into it
I started by jaoining a part time department and had them pay for all my training while gaining experience. Depending on your area most part time/volly departments are hurting for members, as for the physical testing 90% of all departments have a pass fail test.

if you have any other question PM me
