Woot! Nashville and Knoxville make the cut. TN REPRESENT!!!!!
but all the local trails are boring.

actually, the title of this thread is misleading, as the fine prints says "

i'm not really in a position to create my own biotech company.

Indy kind of sucks.

Fayetteville, AR is nice. But it small and kind of rednecky. People are annoyingly slow there too.

Durham, NC is OK. Traffic sucks though

Nashville, TN is one of my favorite cities. It seems very liveable and fun. If it had good local riding I would move there in a heartbeat. I love the area around the southwest part of town. Lots of parks.

Phoenix, AZ was cool when I was there. But my friend that lives there says the crime is really bad there. Sad really. My old dog is buried there.

Knoxville, TN has potential. I drove through there in the fall and it was so nice. I like anywhere I can get great fried chicken.

Boise, ID was cool when I was there 12 years ago. It seemed sleepy at night except for a few college bars.

Houston, TX. I hate Houston. It just sucks there.

Raleigh, NC see Durham

Albuquerque, NM. I would have to have a really good job or a girlfriend to live there. I would prolly get bored of dealing with the snooty locals....

It's not that the local trails are "boring" exactly, its just that there's only 5 or 6 legitimate different trail systems here. They are all nice and well maintained, but after a couple years of riding them constantly, I just got tired of them.
There is within 5 hours, Windrock/Haw Ridge, Knoxville Area trails, Chattanooga, Asheville (Pisgah, Tsali, Dupont, etc), North GA (Bear Mtn, etc) and the Arkansas Trails like Womble. It's pretty central to some good destinations, but around the city, meh.

Ya, no suprise that Seattle isn't on that list.....It's nice that your combined income of over $160k won't get you jack within an hour of the city, and no light rail system.

... Phoenix... crime is really bad there.
It's the summer heat that I couldn't stand. Living indoors from air-conditioner to air-conditioner, four months out of the year...:disgust1:

notice the lack of anything on the east coast....? must be somewhat accurate then.
I agree, a lot of nice towns back there... 'tho I haven't personally visited them, lot's of people say it's worth living there (except for in winter) :brow:

I am surprised Greenville SC is not on the list as we are one of the fastest growing cities on the East Coast. Real state has gone up a lot in the last 3 years here and a lot of industry is moving here too.

what/where is cool in boise? i'll be there for 6 weeks starting mid-feb...
I stop downtown on almost every trip to/from Moab or Colorado. The downtown is easily accessed from the Interstate. Restaurants are pretty good, and surprisingly (for Idaho) there is a decent selection of ethnic food.

Other than short stints downtown, I don't know a lot about the city itself. But in terms of proximity to mountain stuff, it's great. Head north out of town and it's pretty much an endless expanse of mountain recreation.
