Invasion of Iran/Syria...draft?

98th percentile on my SAT & all I got was this tin
There is the $450k my wife would get when I get my ass shot or blown up. So I guess she would come out ahead in the end.
Being newly married, I could not understand why BurlyShirley was willing to go defend our freedoms. Now it is all clear.

It wasn't really about the necklace of ears. It was about making sure Kizzi77 is set for life. What a guy.

It just don't seem like much. Especially since after the gov't taxes it and you end up with about $5/day.

Come to think of it... that is like getting a free Starbucks coffee EVERY DAY for 3-6 years!

What American™ could resist? Where do I sign up?
What, you drink only one? And no tip? Geez...

So let us suppose that the draft is instituted and young Blue is called up, but decides not to report. Is he subject to military law? What about if he shows up and informs whoever that he is refusing to report?

Anybody have an idea what the consequences might be for Blau in this situation?

Federal pound me in the ass prison, with a bunch of vets who are having a string of bad days anyway. Or, hope you like hockey, and Molsons your beer of choice...
Draft, never happen. And honestly, if it did, I would move my family to Canada, while I finish out my time in the service to claim my retirement. How f*ucked up is that?
Thing is, I dont want my kid FORCED to serve, and I dont want to deal with a bunch of other peoples kids who have been forced in. We have enough discipline problems anyway with the kids who came in under their own free will. What kind of mess would we have with conscripts? If given an option (Public service for 2 years or military?) okay. But GW and his cronies avoided serving, and drove away the guys who did (Colin Powell, for example).
I made a rational decision to serve, and to keep on serving. One of the stupid idealistic reasons I stick around is too provide others the freedom of choice.
I had this discussion with an E8 the other day. Didnt go real well. Moron...

It might be time to stop calling it "serving" in the military. That made sense when you were drafted, but since we're all sorta semi-volunteer now, I'm not sure that applies, and probably gives more credit to some people than they deserve.

After all, I don't serve at my job. I work at that. Serving is something I do on my own time, without getting paid for it. Or something I'm forced to do (oops...yes dear, I'll take out the trash.)

I realize we're all speaking in hypotheticals here...but all of this "Well I'll just move to Canada" talk...you can't just "move to Canada" ya know. No more than you can just move to the US....You need a visa of some sort. Fortunately though, we have a "avoiding US military service" visa.

Have faith in that this will escalate, world rule is at stake. If the old colonial powers don't act soon the world will soon get out of hand. According to many, the Chinese, the Mayas (maybe Incas), and a whole bunch of others, when 2012 has ended we willl know.

But when it happens and the Middle East starts getting to hot and sandy for all you G.I.'s, then the cool green country of Sweden will wellcome you all once again!

THERE WILL BE NO DRAFT UNDER THIS ADMINISTRATION. Why, you ask? Well, if there were a draft, public pressure would put an end to this war in a heartbeat.

As it stands, there is VERY little personal sacrifice being made by your average Joe American. If there were to be a draft (or even serious talk of a draft), this sacrifice would all of a sudden be very evident. The bulk of the American public would simply not stand for it. Then, and only then, will the American people stand up to stop war.

This administration knows that basic fact. That's why every time talk of a draft come up, the party line of "THERE WILL BE NO DRAFT PEROID" is tossed about consistently. Obviously, and by their own admission, this administration wants to continue this war at any cost. A draft would be the kiss of death to that desire. This is why I AM FOR A DRAFT. It's really the only viable way to stop this madness.

Again, there will be do draft under this administration ... period.

and you think the public is happy with the war now? remind me again how public pressure would stop the war given that gwb and co. need not worry about elections again...

:D

Traditionally it's split between beer (or mjöd which is the viking version) and moonshined vodka mixed with hardly anything. Just a lingonbery or two.

The MTB action has grown remarkably in the last 5 years or so. The DH sucks in Stockholm but the XC is first class as last years SS world championship contenders found out. But compared to Canada...

To our defence is that we just gotta have hotter chicks than Canada. Otherwise Sweden couldn't be THE favorite country of Gene Simmons...

If this war were to put little Johnny Suburb in harms way, the reaction (from little Johnny's parents) would be too much for even this administration to spin. Mass demonstrations would become the norm - guaranteed.

Again, that's why this administration will not support a draft regardless of the situation. Simply put, it would end their war.
