I thought it was really good. I do pay more attention to camera angles/composition/lighting etc than anything else though.

Can I subscribe to the Burly Film Weekly? I think your reviews will help me more in my movie selection than Ebert could ever hope...

Hmm weighing multiple opinions that i certainly would pay heed to, i'm a bit hestitant to choose if i was to check this flick out. The first i've heard of the movie was on the radio of all places... i think i may very well see it based on Toshi's approval. If it proves to be too "heady" though i very well may have to suffer a "i told you so" from the Burly one...

Well, the most common comparison I hear is between it and Blade Runner, which was a particularly "heady" movie. I personally can't get enough of that sort of flick, so I have high expectations.

I liked it a lot. Like BAH said the camera angles/composition/lighting etc were awesome. I also was impressed with a lot of the special effects. Cool movie for sure.

I liked it a lot. Lots of subtle touches to place it in a "lived in" realistic future. Michael Cain listening to the music of his youth (hip-hop) was pretty classic.

The steady-cam work in the refugee camp was amazing, 2 minute running gun battle and no cuts....damn!

Saw it last night. There were several moments like that in the movie, very well timed shots of action that went on and on with no cuts. Added to the tension of the scenes.

I liked it.

At the end I was waiting for some drunk yahoos in a big jet boat to come and run over the little row boat , slicing it right in half... now that would have been a good ending.....

So I saw it tonight...

It was all right. Setup was well done, plot was "eh", acting was "eh", but camera angles, composition, and cinematography were downright awesome.

I think the set designers were playing a whole sh!t ton of Half-Life 2 before working on this movie...Not to mention the last half of the film was like playing it anyway...

hahaha, it was so close to half life 2 it was scary at times...that being said, i liked it, and I could watch a full movie of the last 30.

it was very engaging and a good movie, definately not happy or feel good...especially when you condsider the ending, which we shouldn't discuss here.

Ballard 4 life.
What was the point of killing him and the baby in the end? Was it to demonstrate the futility of life?
An old man dies... a young girl lives.

I thought it was a quality movie. Being a theology major, I couldn't help but notice the strong Biblical theme. Great visuals, and that 10 minute uncut shot was quite possibly the most impressive bit of cinematography I've ever seen. It seemed like a good representation of the near future too; quite realistic in terms of technology. The story was original, and the acting was great too... Michael Caine was fantastic as an old hippie, and Clive Owen isn't too bad either. I still had a few questions at the end though, and I'd say that's the only negative point I had with the movie.

overall i was not that impressed with the movie as a whole. the editing/filming camera angles were very well thought out and executed, but as a movie, i feel it lacked alot of information

there were many ideas that were not explained what-so-ever

the idea of infertility-where did it come from?, the problem w. all the refugees/immigrants- why were they there, what were they refugees from?

maybe i am just too 'shallow' or 'unintellectual' for this movie, however i have seen many movies and usually am able to pick up on underlying messages. eh. maybe im just missing something.

what do i know?

overall, i felt it sucked from a story point of view, i would say save your money and go see something that you could at least get a laugh out of, like primeval, that was funny. or even wait for a good movie and go see 300

then again, who am i?

They were immigrants in England. England was herding them into camps as a survival measure for the state. (keep England for the English)

That wasn't obvious in the first 5 minutes?

The rest of the questions, well I guess they left it open for a sequel then.

The immigrants and refugees were from all across the world, fleeing their respective homelands that had fallen apart.

I'd like to know why Britain "soldiered on", and the why the infertility, and blah blah...

I felt it (the plot) was a mediocre adaption of a mediocre novel, but what do I know. Rest of the movie was pretty damned good. Michael Caine was good. Caitlin cried when he died. lollers.

What happens to a society when it finds out there will be no future generation to carry on? Anarchy, you are fuct, so's your neighbor, you might as well steal his big screen to watch the apocolypse in style. Take that to a nationwide scale. Its not that hard to picture.
