high roller 2.5 = michelin ?

Quick question: If I have run 2.5 highrollers for years, what michelin tires will work for me? I understand a 2.2 michelin is as big as a 2.5 maxxis. I also like minion DHFs a lot, but mobsters roll too slow for my tastes.

I might have a hook up for michelins, so don't suggest other tires.

the comp 16 is going to be closest to the high roller. You can run a 2.2 and just keep it inflated around 80psi for a day or 2 and it will stretch out.
Although it appears your from aussie land, you should definitly give the comp 24 a try (particularly in the rear) which is better suited for dry conditions. Do some searching for how to cut them, if you remove the intermediate knobs it will be better suited for loose stuff.

No, the 2.5 maxxis and michelin are pretty similar. The Comp16 and highroller are similar, but the michelin has taller flexier knobs which work well in loose intermediate conditions, but sometimes arent as good on hardpack from the knob deflection.

Man, I hate the idea of cutting knobs. I suppose I would if I got the tires cheap.

What's this crap about them stretching? Are the casings made of cheese?

The comp 16s looked the closest. Is it just me or does michy only make 2 kinds of DH tire?

Do people generally run a comp16 front, comp24 rear?

you might be better off with comp 24s front and back, as the comp 16 really wears out fast in dry conditions.

whats are the conditions really like in aus? loose over hardpack or just loose dusty? any wet conditions?

if its loose dusty then it will hook up great.

oh yea, mich make 5 kinds of tires, comp 15,16,24,32 mud3

15 is a semislick tires, 32 is a huge 2.8 tire and mudd well, is mudd.

Conditions here vary a lot, from mud and loamy **** to sand to dusty as faaaaark. Generally speaking, not a *huge* amount of good hardpack, what hardpack there is on dh tracks is usually covered with plenty of dust and stuff anyway.

I reckon the comp24's are pretty average compared to something like a minion DHF. The comp24 has a pretty round/smooth profile without long or big knobs - works well for smoother more groomed courses, but generally we just don't have tracks like that here. I thought it was pretty lousy as a front tyre too personally, if I had to run one it'd be strictly for the rear.

The comp16 and comp32 both work well - if the 32 came in a 2.2 and 2.5 size it'd probably be worth running, unfortunately 2.8 is just too big. That leaves the comp16, which works fine.... but spectacular? probably not.

At the end of the day, minion DHF's here are almost half the price of the michys and work DAMN well (or 90% of the DH racing population here wouldn't run them) so unless you are getting a smokin hot deal on the michelins (read: <50au and closer to free) then i'd stick with the minion.

Yeah, f michelin... I thought a minion would be $100 here. Since they're only $50, minions it is. God help me, I love maxxis tires. I don't know what I was thinking.

Yeah, it's a good setup. They roll pretty slowly as rear tyres (well that's my feeling compared to high rollers and minion DHRs) but the lateral grip is arguably the best out there (though I haven't tried any Michy stuff for a couple of years).
