Eastern Grim Reaper?

Does anyone have any experience with the Eastern Grim Reaper frame riding street and trails? Its the one with the cut outs in the frame. The BMX bike is the only bike I own that doesn't kill my hands(go figure), so I'm going to go the Gucci route and build up a sick one. Not that my Fuse isn't cool, but if the 20" is the only bike I can ride continuously, I want to set it up exactly the way I like. I know its stupid, but I want to go as light as I can, as long as the frame will hold up with peg use and general street abuse. Any info would be killer, thanks.

I don't have one but if I did my only concern would be riding anything dirt. There is a cut out at the bottom of the B/B and it just seems to me dirt would get in there and mess up the bearings. The grims do come with some plastic that you can use to cover some of the holes though.

I didn't think of that, or I guess there could be a problem if I got stuck in the rain or something too. You don't think there would be a problem with the dropouts being pretty small and riding pegs though?

personally-there are a lot better frames, with solid tubes.
if you want light-check out an S3, or a Hawk to save a few bucks. the s3 is 4.8lbs, the hawk is 5. to me, the tubing was too thin, it scared me...especially sicne im almost 200lbs(im 6'4). i just built a 'gucci' bmx bike, after selling my mob, and also realizing that bmx is a lot of fun, especially just to kill time in a parking lot orsomething.

i ended up going with a 3amigos frame. the geo was what i was looking for, and the frame was SOLID. it weighs 5.3lbs ibelieve, but i still built it up to 22.7lb, with brakes. to me, i'd rather have the solid feeling under me at t he frame, with lighter parts-than an ultra light frame with moderately light parts.
check out my thread called Dialed. for pics/specs

I'm looking at the 3 Amigos frame as well, especially after seeing your bike, there are some really cool design features of that bike. I couldn't figure out which chainstays to get. I know its easier to pull the front end up with short, but may be easier to hold it up with long. Also for jumping, which would you expect to be better?

Dave, I rode my bud's Fuse 4 for a while just playing around.

Then he switched to an S3 and the feel was just so much better. It was just so easy and comfortable to ride, it manualed really well.

The problem I have w/ longer stays is that you have to pull up really hard initially, and then as soon as it comes up you loop out. I like shorter stays because I don't get that feeling.

That makes sense, I've kind of had that feeling on the Fuse. Does anyone know why Albesbmx has the 3 amigos frame for $100 off? IS it being replacd? I have my whole new setup dialed once I get the frame thing figured out. Its gonna be sick.

Dave I'm in the same boat as you now. I'm planning to build a sick BMX and I'm torn between a 3amigos (you can get 'em for $200 at Albes, that's why), a Grim Reaper, and an S3. I'd consider a Superstar too.

The 3amigos has nice features and is cheap.
The Grim reaper is light but I don't like the cutouts.
The S3 is middle of the road but it would be the most expensive because it doesn't include a headset or seatclamp like the GR.

I've had some buddies build up bikes that were too light. They will start to feel sketchy around the low 20's, especially with a smaller frame. I ride an FBM built up to 26 lbs. and love it...it's all really personal preference, though. The Grim Reaper...please don't run pegs or ride alot of hard street...they are more of a dirt frame than anything, and even then, there are plenty of much nicer frames that will hold up better at the same price or cheaper. Some to check out...
Sunday-Danscomp has the 1st gen frame on sale for 239.99 right now-very solid frame
United
Fit-S3 rocks, so does Hawk
Fly-3amigos, Pantera
FBM
S&M
Mutiny-Sinister is nice
Hoffman-The Bama/Rythym are both nice frames for cheap.

Those drop outs are small, I had a regular Reaper frame and had to file my pegs to get them to fit.

Eastern makes good stuff, I wouldn't worry about durability. Just put a sticker over the bb cut out :-)

gaddam! i thought mine was light at 28.5 finally.. what's this about 22?! i'd be scared to break it for sure...

and dave, just get an s3! i know you liked the s2, and if i remember, it's basically the same geometry, just lightened up. but yeah, update me on the plans!

I decided on the 3 amigos, Albes has them with a good price, and it has all of the features I want. I got all my parts ordered today besides the fork, basically all Odyssey besides G-Sport hub. I just need to get the frame, fork, post, seat and tires from mailorder. Now I just need to choose which color(black or tan). I went left side drive. Hello balla ass rig, goodbye paycheck(and possibly next one too)!

Go tan. That'll look way sicker built up IMO.

I think I'm gonna order a 3amigos soon as well, mine will be either blue or tan. Probably blue.
