Anyone live in SLC?
What are your impressions of the town (if you are not a mormon)?

I just got a little bit of action from a resume I sent there. *fingers crossed*

How is the whole living in Mormon State thing? I live under the belt buckle of the bible belt so I think I could cope with it...but I still want to know how obnoxious it is.

thnx!

From my trips there, i can say that as a visitor, i found it much less oppressive than the south. Much less forcing their beliefs on you, they believe what they believe and keep to themselves mostly. Maybe it's different living there.

Well that sounds promising. It cant be any worse being than being a non-believer in the deep dirty south.

But if I get to snowboard in the winter & ride in actual mountains in the summer...i think i could put up with a lot. Unless the wine there is like 6% or something ridiculous.

I live in SLC and am not Momo...

I like it here. Riding is damn nice (and damn close), skiing/boarding is arguably the best in the world (if that's your thing). It's no longer dirt cheap to live here, and the housing boom cooling hasn't hit Salt Lake yet. Nice food, weird booze/club laws. 3.2 beer in grocery stores, wine/spirits/hardier beer must be purchased from a state liqour store.

The suburbs are mostly Mormon and very conservative (and cookie-cutter...I'm not a fan of them...think Pleasantville), with Salt Lake City being mostly non-Mormon and mildly liberal. I'd suggest avoiding anywhere outside of the Salt Lake metro altogether... If you've lived in the Bible Belt, the incredibly corrupt and extreme right-wing state government probably won't get too far under your skin. They tend to push the same "family values" crap that the bible-belters do.

Mouse Monkey is another SLC monkey who moved here (next door to me, even) with his wife from SoCal back in May, you might want to PM him for an outside view.

Anything else?

Were you hanging out in church parking lots?

I've never had that problem.

You must go out of your way to be offended/oppressed.

Although I'm only in the very shallow south I haven't really had problems, except from one dip**** neighbor who has moved. Now when I lived in Ohio I practically had to carry a baseball bat around to protect myself from being saved.

I just moved from Reno to Alabama....
And I found SLC to be a great place to live during my visits......

But also found that they are somewhat exclusionary if your not Mormon.....not so much by choice....but the fact that it seems to be a common bridge for them...

The South:bonk:
Well, the first word out of my neighbors mouths were we're from such and such great baptist so, and so...."you should come down to our church"....and I proceeded to say i'm not much a follower....it was our last conversation....

I *****n hate it here...and can't wait to move back...

Sorry for the rant....SLC is great.....Big Powder, big mountains...

I know.....

Bad move, i'll be back soon....

Actually I moved for several reasons that i've found to be all outweighed by my love for the mountains, and my disdain for the derty souf....

I really do *****n hate it here....

Considering moving to SLC as well.....I've always had fun in Utah.
