The blackmarket price is on the website. I beleive it's 400, and the gold label depending on where purchased can be a bit pricey. Check e-bay and but everything there. You can get badass deals on most things and some will be almost new.

well i know the price of the fork/frame..i just need a rough idea of components..if it gets too expensive, i would just get a Kona Stuff...so i would probably want parts close to that bike..

Building is SO much more expensive than completes, and if you'll settle for that level of componentry then it's worth it to just get the Kona. You should only build a bike when you really know every part you want and why you want it.

sooo go look at the parts list for a kona stuff: http://www.konaworld.com/shopping_cart/FrontEnd/Products/product_detail.aspx?productid=319&parentid=253

then go to ebay and price them.

I will correct my colleague above by saying there are really only 2 reasons to build a bike. Either you are very particular about every part you want or you have a bike that needs replacing from which you can scavenge a significant quantity of parts.

Starting from scratch will not save you money and if you value your time and don't have access to a shop/enjoy working on bikes it will be way more trouble than its worth. You probably don't have the tools to ream tubes, press bearings, or chase threads at the very least, and you will pay a bike shop top dollar to do these these things they would have done for free to a stock bike coming in the door.

If you want to save money just go used. Plenty of very hot street hardtails in the classifieds looking for a good home.

i don't know how much money you have or what but you may want to consider buying a complete bike that you wont have to or even want to upgrade.. look into the atomlab GI and Trailpimp completes. they are both way sick bikes and are pretty reasonably priced considering what you get. the TP complete is pretty expensive..but if you were going to build up a mob or something this may be a good alternative? you can find them both on www.atomlab.com and buy them on www.adrenalinebikes.com
