Hey guys! I know I haven't been on in months, but I have very exciting news. My name is Stephen Thomsen and I am a local Santa Barbara area mtber. I've got approval to build a nice set of dirt jumps on the site of the Firestone Walker mtb race venue which is going on the 27th-29th of April. I'm organizing a type of dirt jump jam event after the DH race finishes up. Now this is where you come in...

It is a "invitation" only event, though there is a chance that any of you may be invited. Here's the deal. Mike Hecker, the organizer of the whole event, has said that I will be the one inviting those who I think are capable of riding it. I couldn't think of anything better that this:

I'm going to have all you who would like to participate to send in any pics, links to vids (youtube, google vid, etc.), or anything that you could show me, via e-mail, that you think would encourage me to include you in the jam. I'm not trying to be all high and mighty here by being the judge, I just think that this would be the only way to fairly give everyone a chance. I know a lot of people who are tired of invite only contests, so this is my solution.

Here's the layout for the actual jumps. It will start out with a small step down jump that would lead to 2 head high doubles with around 15-20 ft. gaps. If you believe you've got what it takes, send me your stuff. I will be choosing the top 10 riders from the submissions. I will be including some personal invites as well, so there will end up being about 20 riders present. You must sign a waiver at the event, which means if you are under 18, you must have a parent/legal guardian sign AT the event.

The comp will be a jam format, which is where all the riders just ride as much as they want for the certain period of time (which has not been determined yet). Once it's over all the riders will vote for who they thought won in each respected category. There will be categories for: Best Overall, Best Flow, and Best trick. I already have Giro on board, who will provide some swag. I'll be asking more companies as the time draws near. There will be some Firestone Pint glasses as trophies for the 3 respected categories. The awards are not the important thing. I created this in order to get a bunch of talented riders together and just do what we love. No pressure, just have fun. I hope you all can make it, and don't be afraid to send me your pics, vids, etc. My e-mail is mbfanatic@gmail.com.

The link to the Firestone MTB race site is http://www.ridesb.com You'll see the link for the race on the front page. So check it out, I hope to see you all there!

If you have any questions about something I missed, feel free to ask. I can't wait to see the submissions.

Let the e-mails flow...
Peace.

The roll in is going to be where the step down was the very 1st year of the DH, right before the finish. It'll start right next to the last big berm, and drop down that hill.

Hahaha....yeah. I'm pretty sure there are some qualified people in this forum.

I need to get the new decline to check out the race in Mexico, and the steel vs. aluminum hardtail thing too.

It's a sick issue forsure. JD on the cover (San Diego). The Mexico race article is great(everone in there is from SoCal), my brother took some of the pictures (the good ones  ) he also has the full-page pic bombin' down the steeps. And the JR spotlight is on Bradical (Socal).

I'll be up for a little dirt as long as I don't get broke off at the Otter. Cru Jones can you send me some info on how and who to get ahold of? Are those thumbnails of the jumps?

Already talked to Carlin. He's gonna be racing moto that weekend, but he would have. Bummer. Adrian might be interested. I should call him up. We've got some guys up north in Aptos interested, so it should be sick. Haven't heard from you in a while Andrew. Saw your thread on your Triton. Looks awesome! I got their new little WMD cromo HT. It's super fun. Hope to see you there JJMF! Peace.

Steve, I'll be there to watch and maybe poach the jumps before hand, but I think my steez is pretty lacking for a contest. Should be fun though. Is this on Sat or Sun?

Ok, here's a final update: It's called off. Sorry for those who were looking forward to it. Unfortunately we ran into an insurance "roadblock" and we won't have the needed funding this year. Thank the wonderful lawyers of the world. :disgust1: Anyway, we are going to start looking for funding for next year right away. I'll be talking w/ sponsors, so expect next year to be big. Thanks again for the interest and support. Peace.

Well, the cows got to the 2nd one. The 1st is still hittable. No one will be able to hit it at the event because of liability though. If you come help out at the course on Sat. I'll let you hit it if you really want to though. Sorry, if you were hoping to hit them. Next year's going to be rockin. Looks like we might be able to have it open invitation to anyone who signs the waivers. Amatuer/ Pro categories.

Well, hopefully no one does flips on the dh course, cuz the next year the insurance would probably go up. :disgust1: Anyway, yea I'm as bummed as you guys. Super lame, that I had the jumps perfect and then it was all just a waste of effort. Learning experience I guess... See you Sat. Noah. It's gonna be rockin. Hopefully the wind will die down. Peace.
