SCOTTS VALLEY: WOMAN'S $5,000 LOTTERY TICKET SNATCHED BY BICYCLIST

03/22/07 2:30 PDT
SCOTTS VALLEY (BCN)

A Scotts Valley woman received an unpleasant surprise Wednesday when a winning lottery ticket she stated to be worth $5,000 was suddenly snatched from her hands by a passing bicyclist.

The incident occurred at around 7:40 p.m. just after the woman had stopped outside her parked car to scratch several lottery tickets purchased from a Safeway grocery store located at 253 Mt. Herman Road, Scotts Valley police Officer David Ball said.

When the woman realized she was holding a $5,000 winning "Cherry Tripler'' ticket in her hands, she raised the ticket above her head, exclaiming, "I won.''

Ball reports that at that moment a man with shoulder-length blond hair rode past the woman on a rust colored cruiser-style bicycle, plucked the ticket from her outstretched hand and sped away.

Police say the suspect, described as an approximately 45-year-old white male standing about six feet tall, was last seen riding away from the parking lot wearing tan khaki pants and a red fleece jacket.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Scotts Valley Police Department at (831) 440-5670

Wow thats my home town. Weird.

I'm glad I was wearing my blond shoulder length wig, khaki pants, and my red fleece jacket last night while riding my beat ass cruiser to go get some beer last night... it was cold out.

I'm ordering my new DH rig today.

lol...all he has to do is drive to the next town and cash...there's really no way of knowing who was the original owner...D
I'm pretty sure they know what stores the tickets are bought from, and that big a ticket is going to have to be redeemed at the lottery office.

You do not. You're just making things up because you're upset that someone else is a quicker-thinking dirtbag than you are.

Lottery 'winner' admits she made it all up
A woman who claimed a scratch-off lottery ticket worth $5,000 was snatched from her hand Wednesday evening in a Scotts Valley parking lot admitted to police Thursday that she had fabricated the incident, according to Scotts Valley Police Officer David Ball.
Adriana Bartch, 35, of Scotts Valley, was arrested and cited for filing a false police report.
She said she'd just scratched off a winning lottery ticket in the Scotts Valley Safeway parking lot at about 6:40 p.m. Wednesday when the ticket was plucked from her hand by a bicyclist after she yelled out, "I won!"
Bartch claimed to have bought several lottery tickets from a vending machine inside the grocery store. She said the winning ticket was a "Cherry Tripler" scratcher, but state lottery officials on Wednesday said there is no $5,000 prize in the Cherry Tripler game. There are $1,000 and $9,000 prizes.

Nam I am
the lottery is a tax on people who are bad at math
The Lottery is also a Tax on the poor . What is really sad is how much Money people who really need the money will dump into the lottery.

I Forget who said it , it was some senator During either the Bush ( the 1st ) or Clinton Administrations ( maybe even Regan ) during a debate on a national Lottery,
"If the President levied a Tax that Taxed the poor at a Significatly higher Rate than the Rich, he would be impeached. "

Yes, but the lottery is a voluntary tax. It's like a cigarette tax. Don't want to pay it? You don't have to. I have never paid a penny of cigarette tax in my life. However the liquor tax.....

The state lottery here was supposed to supplement public schooling here, but every year you see more people on the streets proposing new initiatives to help fund education. It's obvious that if they put more money in education it would increase Splats spelling significatly.:monkey:
