it would be better than anywhere in socal where they dont even have lifts.
World Cup races need to be at a top notch resort........Plattekill is not a resort in case you haven't noticed. Great terrain but the plywood ski lodge and the 1950's plumbing isn't going to cut it.......

clearly you havent, considering i live an hour away and manage to get there 15times+ a year i might have a clue. but i guess im just a stupid hucking kona that doesnt know anything.
Apparently, you are. I have been there plenty since they opened for MTBs, and will never go back. The place is a complete dump, the owner/manager is a jackass who does his best to alienate the clientele that is paying his bills.

It's also pretty clear that you have never been to a world cup, either as a spectator or a competitor and are not aware of what it needs. As crummy as the locations out west have been for NMBS races lately, they are light years ahead of the dump that is Plattekill. Not to mention the entire area around the mountain is like something out of deliverance.

i'll agree, plattekill is not fit host a WC. but you think having a large downhill race at leguna seca with no lifts is not much better.

White face would be the ultimate place to host one if they could manage to get it. the 5k race there last year was the most fun i've had on a bike in one weekend. TOP notch course that made you want to just do more of it. lodging up the wassu. a huge resort known for hosting world class events. Not to mention a dedicated staff like Downhillmike and others working vigorously to make things work.

yeah, still closed. But with ASC finally kicking the bucket, and a new owner coming at somepoint I'm hopefull... Maybe for no good reason, but they had some of the best terrain.

I rode there once in 2001 and it was super fun. Really fun terrain up top with all of the open slope rock and some really fun tech stuff further down. Maybe it will open again someday, can only hope...

You've been there once in the last 8 years.

Gear down on all the hearsay a east coast junoir high backstabbing.....
Sorry, what? No, I have been there plenty more than that, I can assure you. Good to know you have my last 8 years race schedule in your pocket though!

PS: you should know what you are talking about before you open your mouth.

do you really want to get into a ****ting match with an 18 year old or are you above that?
Plattekill kinda lacks resources to put on such an event. maybe some people who claim to ride. AKA you, got up off their computers and went and rode there, they might do a little better.

id sure love to see you try and run a successful series at your own private mountain and actually make some dough. i think your mountain would rightfully suck because the only work youd put in, is sitting here on your ass talking smack on RM.

Lacking resources is one way of putting it.

Laguna secca holds huge events through out the year , it has the facilities and ammeneties.....Plattekill has world class terrain and nothing else, its great grass roots racing for the camper weekend warrior.

World Cuppers (and i use them term loosely)who show up there smelling themselves looking for more than just riding great trails are going to be dissppointed.

Yeah i know Plattekill Fraser.......i've been to almost every race in the last 8 years and my crew is there nearly every weekend.....let's just drop it. We all know Lazlo can be a jerk but still people love racing there even if it doesn't meet your lofty standards. The races are cheap, and the events run like clockwork.....the guy has limited time and money and he'll tell you that, you of all people should know there aint no money in this sport....

Didn't say you didn't know plattekill. You don't, however, know my schedule (Clearly). Last time i was there was 2 years ago, and before that I was there plenty; at least once, probably twice a year since I raced for IronHorse and they had a dinky trailer, no downhill bikes and Orange cotton jerseys. Hell, you and I both know I have been there since before 3/4 of the kids on this board or who ride there were even riding bicycles, let alone racing downhill.

Lazlo being a jerk is one thing, but defending that location for a big race and calling it a better venue than Laguna Seca...c'mon now, let's get with the program. I wouldn't even call it world class riding. I have been lucky enough to ride at world class venues around the world, and it just isn't one of them. It is fun to ride, don't get me wrong, but i wouldn't pay to race any event there larger than what they already have.

FYI...Plattekill is the epitomy of civilization when compared to Deliverance. Deliverance was filmed in my neck of the woods. You know...where Eric Rudolph disappeared for many years...

You guys arguing that Platekill sucks, been to races, how cool you are, is funny.
Go to Vars, Stellenbosch, Hindelang, Zaragoza, Leysin, etc...and tell me about those places-nevermind, I have been there and they are all ****ty 'venues' that had great world cup racing action.

Point is, this is not F1, Nascar we are promoting here, so a 1950's lodge is not the worst thing that could happen. I do not even think platekill is one of the options, but IF it were, it could be pulled off.

Even if the WC gets held at Whistler, the place everyone thinks is the holy land for mountain biking, will Microsoft come in as a title sponsor? no. Point I am trying to make is put on a good event, regardless of location and it will be a success.

Look at fontucky, in 20 years of going to races I can not think of a bigger pile of crap venue-BUT, Donnie puts on a good race and it seems to work for people, I do not know how, but it does.

Hope that all made a little sense, I am watching my kid put jelly all over our dog and it has me stressed out. ;)

plattekill is awesome as far as the terrain and race series goes. the area definaltey just doesn't have the resources for a a really big event unfortunatley its a MOUNTAIN and not a PARK. i love platty even if the facitlies are old and things aren't nice and sparkly

Think about that thought Konahucker43, it might cure the "Winter Illness" meltdown you're experiencing right now.....

from another thread regarding a WC race at Platty...

doood, Laz could hold the world cup at Platty on like 5 days notice. just enough time to put on a blindfold and walk down the mountain to make the course. anyone who has a problem he'll just give 'em the "shut up and ride"

its basically the truth. you could hold a WC event at Plattekill, but it wouldn't be on par with the other WC events. It would just be a regular Platty race with way too many people there, no parking, and a horrible sh!t smell everywhere you go. Platty is great for what it is, don't get me wrong. But its not WC caliber. Well organized 'grass-roots' style racing, fun camping experience, but that's about it. Nothing bling about it. Its a good place to go to hone your skills and a good place to start racing and get better. Just my $.02

got you beat. My mutt rolled in cow crap yesterday afternoon and my 1 year old girl wanted to hug him....

I've been to Platty and loved riding/racing it that weekend. It had the best vibe of any race I've ever gone to. The car camping in the parking lots was the BEST ever. Sure, some people camped b/c there's not a hotel anywhere to be found...but most did it b/c everybody else was there having a blast from sunup til late, late in the night.

I DID NOT, however, take a bath in the drain pipe for the pond like Bo and Hartlove did. Shewwww!

If a World Cup were held there, I'd love to witness it. But truly Stik, it's the ultimate "Here's a lift and a parking lot and there's a mom and pop store back in town, not even a Holiday Inn place". The people coming to race/watch/work...better bring a tent and tp though.

As for Fraser and the others...why do you keep biting Fraser? Let it go. Or I'm gonna report you to the moderator..I mean report you to you?:twitch:

I'm not going to support the notion of a WC race at plattekill, but I really wonder where you guys are basing your opinions on.

There's now a decent lodge down in the town near plattekill.

There's also a very large resort on the way to plattekill from the south. I'm not sure of the name of it, but it's there, it's big, and it's not a motor lodge.

Now the mountain itself couldn't support the race, I won't deny that, but why spout off when you don't know all the facts? I think Bromont is a nice mountain, but the size of their bathrooms are the same as plattekill, if not smaller. Maybe they had a second one, but the one I was in had two dumpers and one sink. The parking lot was adequate but not paved....but I still don't know enough about the area to say it could or could not host a race...so I'm not going to say anything about it.

Plattekill is great for what it is, and I like the fact there are no kids and families around (bromont, diablo, etc.) so I can burp fart and scratch myself.

I don't know where this post was meant to go, but Fraser you know better than to keep an argument like that up...come on, you're a moderator and you don't need to instigate.

True...apparently the toilets at Platty are the worst thing that could happen.

Jeez - I've haven't been there (yet) - but what the holy hell is going on in their crappers?!
