The Fountain Head by Ann Rynd

Roark is my hero.
I found The Fountainhead really interesting, but it's been several years since I read it. I liked Atlas Shrugged better... both were quite thought-provoking.

There were times reading each of them though, that I wanted to strangle the author.

Right now I'm reading some short essays by GK Chesterton. :)

Pattern Recognition by William Gibson.
weird stuff, but decent so far.

Also reading E.D.E.N. Southworth's "The Hidden Hand" for my English 418 senior seminar. Pretty good as well.

I just finished "Cocaine: an unauthorized biography" by Dominic Streatfeild. Amazing book, if you think the "War on Drugs" is winnable read this for a reality check.

Next up: The Darwin Conspiracy

Tom Robbins' Skinny Legs and All

it's about inanimate objects trying to get to Jerusalem, a painter, a giant welded AirStream Turkey, and Turn Around Norman....
I was pretty disappointed with Skinny Legs and All. Even Cowgirls Get the Blues was much better, but still maybe not quite my style.

In the last three months:
Oroonoko, Roxana, Pamela, The Adventures of Joseph Andrews, The Female Quixote, A Farewell to Arms, The Sound and the Fury, Their Eyes Were Watching God, The Things They Carried, White Noise and Everything is Illuminated. I took two 400 level literature classes this quarter. Read every last word of every page. And one of the teachers failed me because I tried to turn an essay in a few days late. GRRRRRR.

I keep starting and not finishing books right now, so nothing actually new at the moment...

However, I was in Chicago scoping out grad school this weekend. The seminary co-op bookstore there is basically the best bookstore I've ever been in. It was amazing; if you have an interest in nearly any academic subject, I recommend checking it out.

Anyone ever read Maus by Art Spiegelman? Its a graphic novel about the author interviewing his father ( a WWII holocaust survivor) about the war. Probably one of the most interesting things I've read in a looong time..

Excellent book. One Bullet Away is also good. Its by the platoon leader Nathan Fick. I've been meaning to find out if MikeD has read it.
Definately a good book. I'm going to have to check out One Bullet Away.

I almost bought Killer Elite but saw Generation Kill and since it's a jarhead book, I had to read it.

I just picked up a biography of Robert Parker. So far it is OK & it is funny to read he used to be against ranking wines by numbers & now his numbers pretty much drive the wine sales in the US.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, I have to get ready for the new one. The Basic Writings of Existentialism and The Illiad just because I've never read them and feel like I should.
