ok im looking at a new to get this summer. i was looking at the Giant STP SS ($750 USD), and the Specialized P.1 ($770 USD). and those are my main choices, and i was leaning towards the P.1 cause it seems to fit me and my riding more, cause im doing DJ, and street, and a little bit of park. and those prices are what im looking at too, not much over $800 USD without tax. and if u can help me with the size that would be great im 5'7" and 140lbs. and i would like replies from people who have more experience riding these bikes, atleast one of them. or if you really really knwo what your talking about i just dont want people saying "get this one its green and has skulls on it" or "get the other STP it has white on it" thanks very much in advance.

Get the P its got skulls on it. J/K. Note that the P series for 07 only come in Long. That translates to about a medium for most standard XC style bikes. At your height you should be fine, but taking one for a spin will tell you best. I like the ride of the new series alot(06 and up). Ive had a couple of P3s and set up a few friends with Ps as well. Im 5'10" and the TT length on the Pseries feel great.

Green with skulls....

I'd have to put one in for the STP! I have one and love it. Just go for the better one. The fork is much better than the DJ4.

By the way... I got mine for $750.00 bone stock.

The STP is super stiff, Very flickable, and has shorter chain stays this year. 15.75" chainstays. 69 degree head tube angle,74 degree seat angle, top tube length 22" or 23" depending on wich size you get,and a 41.6" or 42.6" wheel base.
They also lifted the BB height by 1/4" this year. I never rode one of the older STP's but mine is dialed! I'm learning to manual so much better on this bike than any other one I've tried. I think the big changes between the STP and the P bike is going to be Steel or Aluminum frames. Both have a lifetime warranty on the frame.

The geometry is almost the same between the two. But you can get the P bike in one size only. The STP comes in 14" or 15" wich is more like 13.5" or 14.5".
The STP is super easy to 180 on. Long enough for bar spins without foot contact, but again the P bike and STP 15" are almost the same exact size and geometry is very close.

I just like the looks of the STP over the young kid look of the P bike this year. I didn't like the skulls at all. But the green frame itself, looks sweet. Pick and choose, They both have very close parts spec. Close to the same geometry, but one is steel and one is aluminum.

Two things I'll give to Specialized is A "bolt on axels" and B "horizontal drop outs" over the Giants QR and vertical dropouts. Didn't matter much to me because the SS kit works perfect and I'm going to go 20mm thru axel anyway.

I almost forgot to mention ,the Specialized cranks come with Truvativ Ruktion, and the STP has Truvativ Hussefelt. If you are going to get the STP SS the fork is total crap! No air preload, No damping, Just two springs and normal preload.

If it's a choice between the two SS's I'd go Specialized, but if you can get the better STP for $750.00 like I did..... The fork is better with alloy Stanctions over steel on the DJ 3.5 that comes on the P1.

well see now that you say that im kinda leaning towards the STP, the better one. cause my LBS that i go to and am good friends w/ the owner sells giant, but not specialized. and i will prolly be able to get a good deal on the better STP but i would have to pay normal price +tax on the P.1 and on the STP i may be able to get it cheaper and w/o tax. so its still kinda a toss up for me and i agree about the whole skull thing it is kinda childish in a way, i didnt really like it but hey beggers cant be choosers. and i do like the look of the STP and the color is pretty nice too on top of it all. maybe ill got for the STP and just upgrade as needed when it needs to be. thanks to both of oyu for all the imput and if anyone else has anything they can add on it would be great.

P. for sure, it's got horizontal drops and it's steel. I love the STPs, just wish they were horizontal.
