I had my 05 DHR ripped off from my garage a few weeks ago. (complete part description in stolen bikes thread, but here is a pic)

Tonight I saw the guy riding my bike down the burke right across the street from Fluidride. I called 911 and chased him as far as I could in flip flops while talking on the phone :disgust: but lost him...

this guy is a rider....which means that someone in this community knows him..

any info would be greatly appreciated...just want my bike back.

What does he look like?...

this one guy tried to cut the cable locking my Uzzi in the bed of my truck a few months back... (he was to stupid to cut a cable w/bolt cutters)...

I chased him about 2 blocks (while on cell to 911) and then he disappeared... about a month later I put a few things together and I think I know approximately where he lives... I think he circled around this one burger place in Ballard (lost me) and he lives around the next courner up from me...

this is the reason everone should own a pistol, people tend to listen a lot better while looking down the barrel of a 40

What does he look like?...
About 6' white male. guessing ~ 180 -190 lbs. late 20s early 30s. brown hair and a pretty full (1" long but thick) beard. Was wearing jeans a sweatshirt, and a hat, so I could not see any more features..

Just based on the way he was riding..(bunny hopping curbs, riding wheelies for 100+ yards)..he knows bikes and is a rider.

BTW I prefer my .45

it really sucks that another rider who knows how partial we all are to bikes would take some buddy elses bike. the ****ty thing is even if he caught what is the worst that the state would do a fine maybe probation.I've heard of people getting 5,6, and even 7 felonies and not serving any real time.hopefully one of us gets to find this guy and get your bike back and not the police, not that the police shouldn't be notified after we are done. sorry for the rant this **** just pisses me off. i hope you had some form of ins. my renters covers all 4 of our bikes even if they are out of the house for under $200 a year

When a fellow rider jacks another, that is just plain and total bullsh*t. I'm actually heading to that neck of the woods for several hours, so I'll be sure to keep an eye out for it.

Hope to see some good news posted on this thread by the time I get home this evening!

Big thanks to everyone who has responded.

I am working on the home owners Ins.

I am definately feeling vengfull, but i tend to get a bit caried away...about a year ago I found a guy who had stolen another bike from campus. I connfronted him and his dog and DIRTY a$$ girlfriend...ended up requiring the motivation of my knife to keep them there for a while before the cops finally showed.

They were not too happy with me when they rolled up and a bunch of people were yelling "he's got a knife...he's got a knife" :poster_oops:

I saw the guy too. Friday night about 1130pm in Wallingford. It was on 45th, cruising past the bar that is next to the bike shop that is no longer there...near taco time but on the south side of the street. I slowed way down thinking i would recognize him. I didn't even consider it was hot.

Good luck man.

Please!!!

if anyone sees this bike just call 911. It is the ONLY DHR with an 888 and hopes, not to mention the brand new XT cranks. The police (north precinct and UW are aware of the situation, they have the serial # in the report and can verify my ownership.

It is a $7000 bike that was stolen from inside my house..damn straight it is an emergency!! Burglary, grand theft....You're telling me that seeing someone driving your stolen car (same value) would not warrent a call to 911??

Non emergency number = no response number...absolute waste of time. I have left no less than 7 mesages with further info about this case over the past three weeks (fingerprints, sightings etc) with NOT A SINGLE RETUNED CALL. Maybe portland is different (actually I know it is not as I have spent lots of time there) but in Seattle, 911 is the ONLY way to get any police attention.

FYI, the police (UW) were more than happy to roll out the troops asap to try and find this guy thursday pm (took spd 10 min to figure out where I was on their maps-then transfered me to UW)). There was talk of doing 'what I needed to do" to stop/detain the guy if I saw him again..throwing a large rock was mentioned (not by me).

First of all that bike isn't a $7000 bike (no matter how you value it in your head). Second it's a NONEMERGENCY! And I'm sure that someone who's having a heart attack and trying to get trough to 911 will agree with me. Use the nonemergency #.

would you like me to give you a build list???

msrp ~ $6700 with out tax or labor .....edit: or the ti hardware, brake upgrades, custom shock work, etc

Obviously if there was a life/death issue at the same moment and only one officer able to respond, the operator would route the officer to the life/death, its not rocket science. BTW that is what paramedics/ems is for....

let me guess...your a cop..one who is "too buisy and too important" to actauly help the citizens around them. Few of those type around here, and in most major cities in my experience.

I really hope that you find this a*& hole. We'll be in the area today and will keep our eyes open.
Thanks...

let me know if you want to check out a T2 rack set up that you were lookin at (3 bike version currently on my roo in wallingford).

hey Lips are you a cop? pretty sure I double checked this with 4 freinds 1-seattle 3-State Patrol and my dad works at the State Partol here in Bellevue and they said the same. Pretty sure, theft is a reason to call 911...but if you call tell the operator its non emergency (life threating) and then they will make the call not you. Otherwise this guy robs some lil old lafy becuase no one called the authorites

First of all Bibs I didn't say don't call the authorities, I said call the non emergency #. Second, all calls to 911 tie up an operator, and they are the ones that determine who responds to the call. To many calls to 911 overload the system. If all of the operators are busy when a life threatening call comes in valuable time is lost. My parents live in Washington and they are older. If I found out that Emergency services were delayed because a bike was spotted and something happened to one of my parents I'd be pretty pissed.
Bibs I think it's funny that you and davep assume that I'm a cop. I'm not but I used to work for a fire department and on a ambulance crew. I know how valuable time is. Dave I'm sorry you bike got ripped off, and I really hope you get back but making disparaging remarks about the officers that you hope will respond when your bike is spotted is foolish. And as far as your bike being valued at $7000 an MSRP means nothing. I'm not your insurance agent. If you paid "full boat"for that bike it looks like you need to learn to shop as well as learn to secure your bike.

Lips shut up and quit your ****ing bitchin, he wants his bike back, anything over 5G and you see it in front of your face, i would call an emrgency.

PS go back to pinkbike!
Bad karma is commin your way

ok Lips, first of all I dont want you to think that I am mad or yelling. Just trying to get a point across, so no har dfeelings just opposite opinions. With that said,

the point of 911 is for this type of thing or any circumstance that which a civillian is not capable of handeling. This kid needs to be delt with by the authorities, otherwise he could be the one that does wrong towards your family(extreme circumstance) 911 will handle the call by priority, that is their job, not ours. Second, if your family is having a emergency, it will be sent to a fire house or ambulance etc. and you will never know why they are 5 mins late to you.

make sense?

My next point is, this mans bike was stolen, therefore he is very irrate, WHY?? would chime in like you did? keep those kind of thoughts to yourself, its almost like

Joe Blow-"my dog got hit by a car at the park"
Random guy "you should have had him on a leash"

I never thought you were a cop, it was more of sarcasm then really thinking of your job position.

We don't have a NON Emergency number in Seattle... as far as I know of... maybe they have that in Oregon?

When a guy tried to take my bike (and didn't cut the cable all the way) and I chased him off and had a moment to chose between the Aluminum Bat in my truck and 911... I chose 911 and left the bat in the truck...

But that's just me.

Anyway so the police took a description and about 15 min later stoped a guy that looked like him but wasn't... I was able to swing by and say it wasn't him...

I say 911... that's what our taxes pay for.

I make one more attempt to try to help you to understand. I'm sure even you guys have seen a funnel, right? OK picture the wide end up being filled with sand, the narrow end that the sand has to flow through is gonna be the operators at 911. You with me so far? OK the sand represents the volume of calls. If the volume is small (less sand) the flow is quick, but if the volume increases (more sand) you have a bottle neck. The flow of sand (volume of calls) is greatly reduced. The only variable is the volume of calls. the hole at the bottom (911 operators) remains constant.
At this point I know it'll make no difference. But I had to try one more time.

Dave I really hope you get your bike back but not at the expense of someone who really needs emergency assistance.

And to the fool that accused me of stealing the bike, SHUT UP your ignorance is showing!

Straight form their website...huh? crazy
Possible Illegal Activity

There are several ways to report illegal activity. If the activity is in progress call 9-1-1. If not, each Precinct has a group of officers that work with neighbors to address illegal activity that is occurring on their block. Those officers are called Community Police Team Officers (CPT) and can be reached through the Precinct you live in.

I.E. if your stolen item in front of you.

Thanks Sam.

FWIW both seattle PD and the UW PD suggested good ole 911 if and when the suspect is seen again.
