So im in the market for a new 4x/ds/dj bike and am looking for a nice flickable hardtail.

Im thinking about a 22 in mob.

It would be setup with a pike, knobbies, gears, so not the typical psedu bmx you see them setup as usually.

I'm just wondering if anyone has experince on one of these setup this way.

The only thing that really worries me is that the chainstays might be to short, and that it would give it a unbalanced conering feel. I feel like i will already have to run a pretty low front end to have it feel balanced, i would be building it up with parts i already have so it will probably be a pike at 90mm, a flat 50mm thomson, and some lower rise bars.

The other thing im worried about is sizing, i thought i would go with a 22 in even though i'm 5 8. I'm not looking for a super tight bmxie cockpit. I actually have a terrible one bmx too. is the 22 truly a 22, or will it be to big?

Anyway anyone have a mob setup for speed rather than pure street/park. and how have your experinces been.

cheers:pirate2:

Yeah cool bikes made by a cool guy-
I rode one at Otter and manualed to backflip and racked my nadds!
Maybe you could get used to the chainstays being like 5" long
but seems like it would be sketchy at high speeds in my opinion.

It's supposed to be a pseudo-BMX.

I'd look for a more purpose built frame if you're going to spend that kind of cash.

Great bikes im running mine SS though, still wating on a bolt on hum so havent gotten to much riding time on it though. What size nobbies whould you be running i dont think a 2.2 whould even fit, there is no tire clreance.

I agree with all of the above. I'm actually scared of mine! My "regular" bike is an Enduro sx with 6" and 7", and I considered THAT flickable after trading it for my Demo. And I went from an 05 STP to my BM Riot and it feels like a butt plug with wheels. It's not an issue with the bike at all, just that I apparently feel safer on a bigger bike. I'm 5'8" and went with the 21.5 TT. I SHOULD have gone with the 22 TT, but I think a slightly longer stem and a taller bar will open up a lot of room. I also use a 70mm travel Z1 Sport fork, not sure how others can even ride with a biger fork, but THAT also makes me hesitant to hit DJs etc with it. It's my street-specific rig for now. And I was running 2.4 Holy Rollers with not much room for ANYTHING between the chainstays. For knobbies, I would be sure to stick with a rounder profile, shorter lug tire, maybe like the Kenda Small Block 8? But it's going to have to be small(they run big anyways) like a 2.2 or less.
In the UK 4x is almost ALL they're used for. So I know it WILL work, and the durability is def there. Grab a 22" frame and a 4" fork and tear it up.

Thanks for the advice, i came to my senses a little. Though i think it could be setup to be a ripper i just want a little more all around ability and i think high speed stability would be to sketch.

this was sorta one of those unthoughtout bored on a friday night bike fantisys, but it doesnt make sense.

There was a sexy brand new 07 22in on pinkbike for like 420 so i was kinda lusting after it. but it just doesnt make sense for me because i have a 20 in too.

I'm 90% set on a yeti dj now. I think it suits what i want to do a lot more.

I have a yeti DJ and a last Ruffnix. I guess you could say the last is similar to the BM.

They are such different bikes, I'm not sure how you'd go 4x on the last or DJing on the Yeti (yeah I know its called the DJ??). I've tried- but the bikes are just too specific. As said, a short backend rocks for street and dj, but at speeds it starts to feel a little sketch.

Oh and a 6lbs, theres lighter 4x options out there. Check out the GT lopes frame, commencal or something like that if your smooth enough.

Get an STP Giant - I am 5-8 and the 22 is a perfect fit- prob. one of the
best all round frames out there and they are dirt cheap with quality geom.
built tough and not too heavy either!

my mob has gears and everything, snaps out of the gate better then anything cause of the short rear end. Best jumping bike on the market too, once you get used to riding a small bike you wont ride anything else. i ride a 22 and im 6'2, i used to ride a 21.5 and they both feel good.

What... you guys don't have any of those? Mine's no girly buttplug...it's big, black and has studs all over it. :)

IknowSanjay... How long a stem were/are you running? Just wondering how much it will jack up the bike's feel if I were to stretch it out a touch(I've got the Atomlab G.I. stem now... SHORT).
