right now on my demo 8 I have 2.3 specialized chunder pro tires. I have some 2.5 minions but dont know whether to run the minions or sell them and get different tires. Other tires I was considering were: high rollers, kenda nevegals, something michellin. I am skeptical about running the minions because I don't want to gain weight and want my bike to be lighter. I'm afraid of the nevegals because I wna thte sidewalls to hold up because there are too many cases where I've heard of or seen ppl mess up their kenda tires. I will be riding N* with these tires this summer.

What's wrong with Chunders? IMO they're great. I don't like Kendas because they feel squirmy, and Maxxis tires don't seem to hold on like Chunders for Socal conditions, although they're still good.

i would stay away from the high roller. their braking sucks and their website used to even say weak braking. i think that is important in the downhill world.

wow, just wow.

You should probably tell the 75% of the downhill population that races quite successfully on High Rollers and comp16s then. I think they have been had. It must be one of the most successfull DH tires of all time because it sucks.

im not running chunders now cus mine are wearing and i want different and probably something better for N*. the nevegals seem good because they are light and the high roller is a hair lighter than the minions which attracts me to them. what do you mean kendas feel squirmy, expand upon this.

High rollers/Mobsters are probably some of the better tires Maxxis made for loose conditions. They rock! That's all I use (mobster front/high roller rear). They work well as both front and rear as well.

Minions front & rear is also a popular combo. I know that they are a bit faster rolling than say a high roller or mobster but either way that's a combo alot run as well.

If you tried finding out what the most sold MTB DH tire is/was......I'd have to guess the high roller is up there.

so is it worth it to get a nevegal that is much lighter over minions or high rollers for the weight? or shud I run the minions even tho they are heavy, or just go a little lighter and get a highroller/mobster? or some other michelling tire?

2.7 minion f in the 60a compound. cut them if you know how and they will be absolutely great for almost every condition including mud.

obviously the 42a 40a or 3c will get better grip but for someone whos buying the tires its not worth it. the 60as will last a season if you ride them lightly.

This has got to be the dumbest statement that I have ever heard. Don't want to hear due to local terrain either, I know for certain high rollers work great in the area. Of all the tires that I have used, I would have to say that the high rollers have the best braking.

Northstar is Comp 16 country if you're worried about weight.
I just pulled the 2.7 Minion that came on my Sunday off and put on a Comp 16 and the Specialized DH tube.

The Specialized Dh tubes are awesome b/c they're just like the old Michelin C5 trail tubes...thick, but not burly thick. Big weight savings and while Michelin was still making them, that is the only tube any of us ever ran. And we had no issues flatting out. That's where you'll get the most weight savings.

honestly, the tire really doesn't matter that much for braking unless your skidding or locking the wheel up. i'm confused. ps.- i run highrollers, they are bomb

what i meant was "more likely to skid" mine did not grip the ground that well when i was braking. if they work for everybody else-good. all i am sayin is that with my expierience i did not like them.

i used to run the 60a's (before i knew better) yes they will last longer, but IMO the extra life is not worth the sacrifice in performance.

FWIW i'm running 2.7 (in reality they measure 2.5) minions in 42a for the east coast, they work beautifully.
