just seeing who's heading up for the Firestone race this weekend..

i'm going to be racin DH & shooting the XC norba.... heading up on Friday morning, & camping through the weekend... sounds like $10 for a campsite, & they give you free firewood (fire is only permitted in fire pits)

should be fun!

I was up there today helping set up, and there are going to be hot showers! Holy crap, deluxe. They're kinda primitive, but hot showers nonetheless. I'd recomend using them in the morning though, due to the wind situation in the evening. See you guys there!

I had a good time this weekend and it was the first National type mtn bike race I've been to since the late 90's. Its also the first mtn bike race I've been to that wasn't held at a ski resort. It was so dusty I couldn't imagine racing and camping out. I didn't see the showers though so if they were there that would make it doable. I'm from New England and I've never seen dust like that.

The down hill course was pretty good for what they had to work with. That seemed like alot of pedaling at the end though, specially since it seemed to be a false flat. Looked like the races were won or lost in how much speed you kept up through the berms. People were running everything from 8" travel pro level DH bikes to 4" travel Giant Trances. The extra travel seemed like it would have been a hindrance.

The x-country course was fast and had some tough climbs but with how hard the dirt was a fs bike seemed to be the way to go. There was a few really fast off camber corners that threw even some pros.

Over all it was a good time with nice people and good food and beer on site. My only complaint is how long people had to wait around for the awards for the sport class cross country. Its almost like they did it to have more people at the start of the pro race.

My bullit was perfect for me on the course. I raced my hardtail last year (fun, but just not as fast). They had two showers across the dry creek from the expo, next to the big metal pipes. It was kind of dusty, but you should go to Infineon :D. I did the XC last year, but decided it would suck with poison oak this year, and didn't do it.

The pedal at the end was pretty brutal, esp in the heat.
I wish that course has another 1000' of vert to work with, but alas..

Roger and I had a great time. Unfortunately out of the 400+ downhillers not more than one was female and over 29 in the Expert category. So, I had fun racing myself. I actually beat myself by 5 seconds on my second run!!! Thanks to Downhill News for the photo!
