UBC is a large campus, with lots of parkland. It's bordered by the ocean on 3 sides, so the views are great. You can descend the banks down to Wreck Beach and hang out naked, or down to Spanish Banks if you're shy. The university lands are geographically separate from Vancouver and you can find just about everything you need there, so you can totally ignore the city if you like. You can see the North Shore Mountains (when and if it ever stops raining) where the MTB trails are. If you don't go at rush hour, it's about a 40 minute drive to the trailhead on Mountain Highway. DON'T go during rush hour unless you bring at least 2 meals, a good book, and a full tank of gas. Traffic in Vancouver is 100% dysfunctional at best. Traffic flow is an oxymoron. But you should be used to that in SF anyway. Oh, and did I mention the rain. There may be parts of the Amazon rain forest where it rains a bit more, but not so's you'd notice the difference. It sure makes you appreciate the sunny days, which do occur randomly.
You're gonna love UBC.
Yea i am attending this fall...I am really interested in what the riding scene is going to be like, and especially how to secure my bikes so they dont go missing on me.
I am soo stoked...especially since im from the us east coast.
I know the international student reps have been very helpful while helping me out. I'm assuming it's going to be easier to get work in Canada after graduating from there, specifically because of the co-op programs available.
my gf goes to school there. she moved up last fall from the bay area and has nothing but good things to say. shes staying up there for the summer and im going to go visit...with my bike
