If I bought too big of a frame and theres no no clearance between me and the top tube what can I do to feel more comfortable on the bike? The only time the top tubes height is a problem is when Im on really steep gnarley trails. It feels like im 8 feet high and scary because it hard to bail off the bike.

That's actually the correct size, unless you prefer something else. You can throw any standover sizing rules out the window when you are dealing with any long travel full susp. bikes.

I just spent 3 days at whistler on said bike. At 6'1", I can ride both the large and the medium but prefer the L. My buddy has the M and they are very close.

Try lowing the bars. The geo feels awkward at first but gets much better with the bars slammed.
Play with the geo adjustments. The "shuttle" at the bottom of the shock can be moved to affect HT angle and BB height. You can get this bike very low and very slack. So slack that it is almost unrideable on the L because the wheelbase gets too long.

I settled on the forward position, with the shuttle flipped from the catalog photo.

These are great budget bikes. I was thoroughly impressed.
