Mavic question?

Thinking about some 321 mavics for my bike. Basicaly I am looking for the burliest wheels they make, nothing tubless, weight isn't an issue. The hubs I have are brand new 32 spoke, so I will use those for the build.
Anyone recomend anything else they make 729's or anything latest and greatest.
Thanks ahead of time.

never tried it. 325 is more of an entry level extreme rim and comes stock on some oem bikes and a bit heavier as well over the 729.

Lots of people like the 721 (21mm inner diameter) and the 729's.

The 729's have a 29mm inner dameter for the tire,
The 325's have a 25mm inner diameter for the tire.

Someone might be able to confirm but I think the 325 are a sleeved rim.

Intense Mag 30's & Arrow racing DHX rims are probably about the strongest rims you will find. Period.

The EX729 (old D321) is probably the next best strength rim. It's pretty much gone though the test of time and still is considered THE MTB rim for DH/FR riding. If you want a little lighter wheelset than say the Arrow/Intense rims go with the 729.

I have Arrow DHX's......and they really are strong rims. They are heavy but take a beating and just keep going. I'm on the 3rd season with just minimal truing to the wheels and they treat me well. I don't even think I've ever really had to true one that much. Well worth it if you're hard on wheels.

What he said. The 321/729 rocks for an all-around DH and freeride rim. They can take a serious beating without being too heavy.

Ake "Spunger" you got an experince with FRX's? Iv'e got a brand new set sitting here. Not sure if i want to put them on or go for something like the 729, 5.1d.

I do! I had a set of FRX's on my Cortina and had them for some time. They are more of a "trail" rim. I'd consider them between a singletrack and a Mavic EX721. I've had a set of each one of those rims and the FRX are right smack in the middle.

The only gripe about the FRX's is they were a pain in the butt mounting DH tires to. They are 27mm wide (a mavic EX721 is 21mm wide) so they are a little wider BUT they are tall rims. I for some reason didn't think they were that wide. I had a set built up and they took a good pounding on our trails with minimal truing/attention to them. They build great for a DJ/FR wheelset. If I didn't score such a deal on my EX721's I'd probably be riding those. They are really close to strength/weight of those rims.

D321 (old) = EX729 (new)
D521 (old) = EX721 (new)

The XM321 (new) is a lighter all mountain rim. I had an EX325. It was heavy, while not very strong. I seperated the non welded seam... I was going to get EX729's for my Bullit, but the Bullit I got came with singletracks which are light and strong (not as strong as EX729's).

I whould be running 2.5's at the biggest, did you have an troubble with tires rolling off?
