I was just playing about with my damping on my 07 teams, i had the floodgate on full and sitting on the bike wound it off, as i did this i herd a hiss and oil and air came out onto my fingers as i was turning the floodgate, there seems to be oil coming from inbetween the lsc and hsc/floodgate knobs, i asume ive blown a seal somwhere but id like to fix it by tmorow as i was planning on going ridind, problem is if its a seal that aint gonna happen. Any help yould be great

you are a legend, i noticed the plastic piece was up high and i ddint remember seing it befor but ive never realy looked that closely so i wasnt sure. Just a quick Q to do it do you need to take the top cap out and if so is it as easy as un screwing the top cap or do you nee to do somthing else to get the damping rod out, ive never been inside a new boxxer so sorry to sound like a dumbass, also, if all the pieces your using are just to keep the seal from popping back out, is it possible seing as ive had them for a while without any problems, that if i just reseat it it might stay there(for a while atleast if i dont touch the damping adjuster), i will try your method but im not sure i have anything to substitute for a brake hose.

Cheers you are truly the boxxer man.

ok so i have a load of o-rings and some washers that are all the wrong diameters for everything as far as i can see, all i need to know is if the whole top cap needs to come off in order to do this of if i can just take off the floodgate without taking the cap off the forks?

ok taken it off, the gap is tiny, so i just need a 0.2mm or so washer but, i have nothing to push the 0-ring down, nither can i get it out to replace it with the larger one i have, does it need to be taken out? or can i just push it in if i can find somthing

call rockshox, you need a new motion control. All the on-line fixes do not work and you will still be leaking oil.

well you say pants but your only wearing one set, same with forks in the uk, so stop being a smart ass.

Ive done it, ended up using a piece of plastic outer gear cable end cap cut down to just over 1.1mm, I got bored of fileing my fingers rather than the plastic so i just used it as it was after about an hour, with about the same height in washers although they are more lie 6.5 id 12od but they work fine, as far as i can tell it has sorted it but seing as my ride has now been canceled due to fecking rain all over the country with no breaks i wont know for a while, im gona take it back out when i get my new bike and send them off to get them warrentied, but if it does work if it happens again at least ive got a short term fix if nothing else, if it does work theres no way id buy a new part.

A simple alternative to what I listed in my thread is simply removing the floodgate knob, finding a drillbit the correct size for the hole in the bottom of it, and extending the hole neatly all the way through the top. Tighten the knob on again via grubscrew, while holding the knob down against the shaft. (ha ha)

This solves both issues in a much quicker way (and requires no extra parts).

1. The floodgate shaft will now protrude through the hole so it is flush with the top of the gate knob (actually looks quite neat), therefore the knob will sit flush against the plastic seat, eliminating play.

2. Because the knob now sits deeper, the "lip" under the gate knob will now sit/push against the o-ring below it, so you've solved that issue too.

Just thought i'd get creative since i've had a few boxxers to do this on. Works a charm.. obviously the method in my thread will be safer if you want to get warranty and stuff because it's reversible. But seriously - home fixes are the best thing about the boxxer!

Finally - if the leak is from under the compression knob rather than from between the gate and top of compression knob, it's a different issue to this; you need to inspect the pressure seal below the reverse threaded alloy topcap (requires some dissassembly). If you do a search, there'll be instructions on here somewhere.

Yep, thanks for telling us what does and doesn't work on OUR forks. Sounds like you are either incapable of following clear instructions, or dismissed the idea without even trying it. Nice!

Im just going on what I was told at angelfire by one of the guys who developed the motion control for the Boxxer. The new dampners have a blue plastic washer under the gate knob that sits flush. This will help to remedy the problem of play on the shaft. I tried the fix that was detailed about a year ago on the sight, it kinda works, if you keep your bike in an upright position, but if you hang your steed in an upside down position you end up with a puddle on the floor. So I guess if ghetto rigging is acceptable with your style of mechanicing feel free, I just prefer to get things fixed correctly thusly eliminating the problem and yes I can follow directions.

Well, the "official" RS fix was exactly as Udi describes for a while, just an extra o-ring thrown in to fill some space. Now that they've developed the revised cartridge a more permanent/acceptable fix is available. I'm hoping to get my hands on one this week. I'm also hoping that my stanchion is going to be replaced, as it sheared off around the bottom circlip groove today, dropping the rebound cartridge into the lowers and relieving me of all trace of rebound damping.

[sarcasm]Man, I love these forks.[/sarcasm]
Don’t worry, jakes Travis craped out today too.

this is not the only way the floodgate leaks, i inspected my seal and its fine mines leaking from below the lsc knob.

do you guys know if they will just send me out a new MCU if my shops says theres oil leaking out the top, i got a race this weekend and would rather not ride a broken fork.
