Ok, so I've got a Whistler vacation planned in July. I'm going with my family but I'll have my XC bike with me. I'm not bringing any armor and I don't plan on buying a lift ticket. Call it blasphemy if you want, but that's my plan. Anyway, I'm only going to have a chance for two rides of about 2-3 hours each. Anybody have any thoughts on a must-ride trail that features sweet rollercoaster singletrack? Preferably something I could ride from town...

There are trail maps available at just about every bike shop in the Village. Most of them can easily be done w/o driving or too much road riding to the trailhead.

River-runs-through-it should definitely be on the list if you've never been there before. Tons of fun.

Do yourself a favor and pack at least some armor: shin/knee and elbow/forearm pads. It'll do wonders for your comfort-level on a few of the trails. Many of the "XC" trails there are like "DH" trails elsewhere. If nothing else, it also makes for good padding around your bike during shipping.

Mounting farily big XC tires will do wonders as well. I ran Conti Vertical Pro UST 2.3's on my F/S bike for XC work and loved them (and Michie Comp 16 2.5's for lift-serve).

I didn't wear any armor for BMX back in the 80's... and still have some 25+ year old scars to prove it... :twitch:

My 37 year old bones don't bounce like they used to...

For two days I would recommend the Lost Lake Trails right next to the resort parking lot, then you move on to River Run's Through it and there is a few other good trails connecting.

Day two I would do Comfortably Numb, didn't do this one but heard really good things about it.

Mostly good suggestions. We did LLT and RRTI. I didn't do CN, but some friends with us did... very long ride... be sure to take a LOT of water. I hope to ride it next time I'm out there.

Don't forget kill me thrill, classic whistler xc. In reality, CN was put there to loop kill me thrill me back to the village, so you could do kill me thrill me to CN to lost lake trails (zappa btw) It would be a long haul from the pits of hell, but it would be an adventure.
