hey can everyone tell me the good and bad things about fox 40 rc2 i am getting them for my birthday because i have a crapy jr.t and cant decide between hope mono6 or new fork. are they to stiff for me i weigh 125lbs
nah i really like the look and performance of the 40 rc and they are not to bad in price. i dont really need brakes rate now but they are somthing i want to upgrade
I've got "them" and I have been really happy with "them." The high and low speed compression adjustements have proven to be really nice depending on the race course this year. I too switched from a jr.t and compared to that thing the 40 is 1000% better.
i have 2 fox 40s i love them both. however i did snap one in half at the u.s. open. they are really smooth, great adjustment, light, but it can break. i liked it enough to get another one even after the first shattered. (which i rebuilt). and hell, the better ur brakes are the slower you are giong to go.
Unless you race and have access to Fox support at those races, I don't think a 40 is necessary. Yes, the rc2's feel great, but the lowers are just not durable. I saw a buddy today take a minor fall and the lower must have hit a rock and dented badly enough that they are trashed.
Consider a Totem or other longer travel single crown.

Eh? Both forks use 40mm stanchions. I'd hazard to guess that wall thickness is pretty comparable on the two forks, and that the Totem would fare just as badly in an incident such as the one you describe above.

Plus the Totem are in their first year of production and have SEVERAL creaking, leaking and all kind of different problems...
Ive been riding FOX 40's for 3 years now in Whistler and I have had zero problem with all of my forks.Performs extremely well in all kinds of conditions, although in order to have it perform at its full potential you have to replace the oil in the lowers quite often....
although i vote 40, if u fall the totem is a single crown and can spin to brace the impact.(to an extent). the 40 is just going to crown the frame and then all other force is right into it. good thinkin' vicious.
i am the guy vicious watched dent the lowers on a 40 yesterday. overshot a table, nosed it to flat, laid down the bike and walked out of it. when i picked up my bike, i noticed the fork sticker was ****ed up and upon closer inspection, there was a mean ass dent in the lowers that prevent the stanchion from passing. I have spoken to several riders (and Fox) all of which admit that they have seen multiple dented 40 lowers. it is a race fork and, as such, is a bit finiky. that said, I immediately ordered a new set of lowers and eagerly await their arrival because the fork is the bees knees.
get the 40, but be ready to do regular maintenence - it needs to be rebuilt fairly regularly. recognize that **** can happen with any fork, but know that with the 40 you are riding the best out there.
